Just ask George Strait.

Being called the “King of Country Music”, life has always been under the spotlight for George Strait.

But before he even became one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time, he’d already met the love of his life, Norma Voss.

He was only a teen.

At 17 years old, George met Norma while they were in high school.

George and Norma were from the same town and they often saw each other when they were still children.

However, they never thought of being romantically linked to one another.

Their first date didn’t pan out.

According to the King of Country, they went out on a date one time but didn’t see each other for quite a while after that.

But as fate would have it, they still ended up tying the knot in Mexico on December 4, 1971.

The two have shared beautiful memories together since then and they couldn’t be any happier when they had their first child, Jenifer, on October 6, 1972.

Nine years after Jenifer was born, the couple was blessed with their second child, George Strait Jr., more popularly known as Bubba Strait.

With all the good things rolling their way, one day, the Straits were devastated.

They lost Jenifer in a car accident.

She was just a couple of months away from her 14th birthday when the tragic accident happened.

Losing a child is perhaps one of the most painful things that could ever happen to any parent. Sadly, George and Norma had to go through this kind of pain.

Losing a child has been known to break a parent’s morale, causing them to lose themselves.

Thankfully, their love overpowered their sorrow.

They found support in each other and together, they were able to move forward, one wave of grief at a time.

Bubba Strait, on the other hand, followed in his father’s footsteps. He became a country songwriter and a professional rodeo cowboy.

Although they went through unbearable sorrow and pain during their marriage, it never crossed their minds to give up.

While most people say “promises are meant to be broken”, the couple proved otherwise as they kept their word and their vows.

Since the beginning, they always have each other’s backs and through the years, their relationship just keeps on getting stronger.

Their bond ages like fine wine.

For years, Norma was a stay-at-home mother until George Strait Jr. left for college. Since then, she’s been with her husband on his tours.

“We do almost everything together … We love each other and we still like each other. A lot!” Strait told PEOPLE in 2012.

In fact, on December 04, 2021, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and George gave Norma an unforgettable gift.

During his live performance at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, George decided to serenade his beloved wife.

He sang “I Cross My Heart”.

He did it on stage, in front of many people, and didn’t shy away from dedicating the song to Norma.
