New Gerber baby with Down syndrome meets the original Gerber baby and they have a 90-year age gap

Who wouldn’t recognize the adorable Gerber baby?

The world-famous brand that has been in our household for many decades has a logo that we can all recognize, but have you wondered who this baby is?

Meet Ann Turner Cook, 95, the face of Gerber since 1928.

Dorothy Hope Smith from Westport, Connecticut, was an artist who specializes in children’s drawings. She submitted an unfinished charcoal sketch of baby Ann, telling the judges that if they decide to choose her sketch, she will complete it.

Her sketch was indeed chosen, but the organizers didn’t want her to complete the drawing. It was perfect as it is.

Since then, the sketch of baby Ann Turner Cook has been used as the trademark of the famous company.

Gerber announced that it was time for them to create a new campaign, and last 2011, they started looking for their next “spokesbaby.”

The company created a contest where people can submit their entries online. The first Gerber photo contest winner was a toddler named, Mercy Townsend.

Gerber didn’t stop there; each year, the company surprises the world by choosing babies to represent their company.

Last 2018, they named Lucas Warren the winner of their contest.

The one-year-old cutie from Dalton, GA, was the first Gerber baby with Down syndrome. He was selected from 140,000 entries.

“It was Lucas’s smile that won him the iconic contest,” said Bill Partyka, Gerber’s chief executive, and president.

“Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s long-standing heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby,” Partyka said to Washington Post. “This year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”

Despite their age gap, Ann and baby Lucas connected with each other when the latter paid his predecessor a visit.

“My grandmother was the Gerber baby. It was a funny bit of trivia, never made her rich or got us free strained peas or anything. But last week she got to meet the company’s newest spokesbaby, named Lucas. Pretty pretttty cute,” Chris’ shared on his post viaTwitter.

According to Lucas’ parents, Ann and their son immediately bonded. The little boy immediately went up to Ann and showed her his signature smile.

Who wouldn’t fall in love with this boy’s smile?

Chris Collin, Ann’s grandson, posted a tweet that showed Lucas enjoying his time with Ann. The little boy was seen sitting comfortably in Ann’s lap.

The viral tweet garnered 63.3K likes because of their cuteness!

“My grandmother has always said that there’s something about the Gerber baby that cuts across all kinds of people,” Chris also added in his post.

True enough, Gerber has proven to the world that they are serious in their campaign.

In fact, in 2019, the new spokesbaby, Kairi Yang, was the first Hmong descent Gerber baby, and last year, the adorable Magnolia Earl took the title as the newest Gerber baby.

Magnolia Earl is the first adopted Gerber baby.

“We all feel so divided sometimes, but the positive response that came from all kinds of people… that is one of the things that’s touching for me,” Chris ends his statement.
