Family returns to scene of horror after German shepherd attacks intruder while they are away
A family usually gets a family pet to act as a companion. Another reason for getting a dog is to serve as a guard dog, protecting the family home from intruders. One Richmond, Virginia family found how capable their German shepherd was in this area after they returned home.
Returning to a bloody house of horrors
Tristan Murrin and his family returned home to find their dog, Oden, waiting for them. At first, Murrin and his mother didnât notice anything out of the ordinary. As they moved further into the house, they made a shocking discovery. Initially, they only found drops of blood on the floor. As they ventured further, they discovered the floors and walls were covered in blood, especially upstairs.
An intruder had broken into the home
Oden had attacked an intruder who had broken into the house while the family was away. It was only as they moved to the second level of the home that they saw the extent of Odenâs defense of the home.
âWe looked upstairs and you could see trails of blood coming from upstairs, going all the way down,â Murrin told WRIC.
The extent of the bloody attack was revealed
As they searched the home, they found nothing was missing. The intruder seemed to have fled before stealing anything. Murrin and his family connected the break-in of their home as one of the several that had occurred in the neighborhood. The intruder was fortunate to have escaped with his life.
This was the first time Oden had been aggressive
According to Murrin, this is the first time that he can think of that Oden has been aggressive. Usually, he is playing with the neighborhood children in the cul-de-sac in which the family lives.
âThe community loves him, the kids come up to him and want to touch him and play with him,â Murrin said.
Oden is a valued member of the family
In Murrinâs mind, Oden had done his job. He is proud of Oden for protecting his familyâs home.
âHe knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that [the intruder] wasn’t supposed to be in there and was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing,â Murrin said.
Murrinâs post on social media went viral
Murrin and his family want to share their story in the hopes it will lead to the intruderâs arrest. A video of the gruesome scene posted on social media ended up being viewed more than 16 million times. Odenâs story just goes to show just how valuable of a member of a family a dog can be.
