Many creatures, be they humans or canines, do not enjoy bath time. To some of us, this can seem bizarre. What is not to like about bath time? There’s warm water, a relaxing ambiance, and depending on your maturity level, floaty toys.

The German shepherd in this viral TikTok video really does not like bath time. He made this perfectly clear by the hissy fit he threw when his owners demanded that he take one.

German shepherd defends himself against would-be bathers.

The video begins with the German shepherd lying on the floor with his head up against a corner. This allows his back feet to fend off those who wish to bring him to a soapy tub of water. Whenever one of his would-be bathers reaches to pick him up or drag him toward the bath, the GSD responds with growls and kicks from his back legs.

The GSD’s human family is beside themselves with laughter as he does this. This was a truly epic tantrum their dog was throwing regarding bath time.

Why don’t kids and dogs like baths?

Dogs are unable to let us know exactly why they don’t like taking baths. We figure their reasons must be similar to why small kids don’t typically enjoy baths either.

The website anxioustoddlers.com lists several reasons why small children don’t enjoy taking baths. Some of the reasons they include as to why children are often fearful of bathtime include:

• Sensory issues relating to the temperature of the water or feeling of water on the body.
• Aversion to getting soap in their eyes.
• Would rather be doing other stuff like playing with their toys.
• Fear of bugs in the bath.
• Aversion to getting water on their face.
• Fear of getting sucked into the drain.

Perhaps the #1 reason why many kids don’t want to take a bath, however, is simply that they were doing something else and don’t want to stop that to take a bath.

Dragging the GSD to the bath.

Eventually, the GSD’s human family makes it clear to him that he will be taking a bath, despite his many protests. You see, in the end, the humans are bigger, control food dispersion in the family, and ultimately make the rules.

The dog’s humans just grab ahold of those back legs and drag him across the tile floor. As expected, the GSD is not happy about this.

“Why? Why do you make me take baths?”

This is one of those scenarios that would be greatly benefited by having the ability to have full conversations with our pets in a shared language. Then we would be able to explain things such as “Because baths make you stink less” and “baths are good for your hygiene and general health.” Instead, all we can do is shout “Bath time! Who’s a good boy going to take a bath?” which doesn’t really help them understand why bath time is important. These are the trials and tribulations of humans and German shepherds at bath time.

The German shepherd will have his revenge.

While the video ends with the GSD being pulled toward his greatest enemy, the bath, what we don’t see is the very likely revenge they got on their humans after. As many dog owners know, a wet and soapy dog running around the house can cause chaos, and one can safely assume that is exactly what this GSD ended up doing.
