German shepherd walks on the sidewalk – then turns and realizes his owner is not behind him
One thing that people love about dogs is their ability to sense how we are feeling. Whether we are happy, sad, or somewhere in between, many dogs have the uncanny ability to know just how to respond. But do dogs have a sense of humor?
One viral video brings that into question as an owner pulls a prank on his German shepherd.
Up to a little mischief
The video starts with the owner and his dog out on a walk on a nice day. As the two walk down the sidewalk together, light-hearted music can be heard in the background. The dog seems happy enough, but it looks like his owner is feeling like a little mischief.
Playing hide-and-seek
As the dog walks down the sidewalk, his owner hangs back. As soon as he is sure the dog is not looking, he slips behind a large tree. Then, he waits. It isn’t long before his dog notices something is amiss. The dog stops and looks around, looking both ways up the sidewalk.
Like any loyal companion, the dog decides to search for his wayward owner. It is almost as if he has come to accept his current situation as a way of life. One wonders if the dog finds it as funny as his owner does, or has he simply resigned himself to his fate.
Where did he go?
The dog’s confusion is evident as he slowly begins to walk back toward the last place he saw his owner. He even gives a double-take over his shoulder, as if he can’t believe that his owner is gone. Meanwhile, his owner stands giggling behind the tree, filming his bewildered dog.
A successful search
Finally, the confused animal figures out exactly where his silly owner is hiding and walks over to see what he is up to. You can almost see the questioning look on the German shepherd’s face as if to ask, where did you go?
People online love the video
After posting the video online, it ended up getting over 18.7 million views. Many of the video’s viewers wondered what the dog was thinking, with the responses ranging from the dog playing a joke on his owner (he could smell the owner all along) to the dog being over the fact that he has to probably deal with these kinds of antics all the time.
And while such a situation might cause separation anxiety with some dogs, this pooch seemed to take it all in stride. Chances are it is not the first time his owner has played a joke on him.
