Sweet German shepherd won’t go to sleep without telling her bunny goodnight
Having a bedtime routine is important for relaxing your brain and getting your body prepared to relax.
According to Sleep Foundation:
“Like any other routine, bedtime routines establish habits that help our brains recognize when itโs time to sleep. By performing the same activities in the same order every night, your brain comes to see those activities as a precursor to sleep…By following a bedtime routine, you can keep your mind focused on other tasks and encourage yourself to relax instead.”
A bedtime routine might also be important for our furry friends as well. At least, if this German Shepherd has anything to say about it. Skottke the German Shepherd has perfected the art of the bedtime routine.
Skottke lives with her human mom and a bunny rabbit.
Skottke is a German Shepherd who just loves all the creatures in her life. One of her best friends is a rabbit named Holly. Skottke and Holly live together with their adoptive, human, mom, who took a video one night of the habit Skottke always has before going to bed.
Skottke cannot go to bed without this essential part of her bedtime routine.
She says goodnight to Holly the bunny! It’s adorable and so relatable: I mean, you always want to say goodnight to all your loved ones too right?
When it’s time to go to bed, Skottke’s mom will say their regular bedtime command,
“Skottke, are you ready to get up?”
And with that, Skottke, knows she has to check in on her bunny friend one last time for the night.
Skottke gets so excited to say goodnight.
When she hears this indication of bedtime, Skottke leaps up. Before getting into bed and sleeping, she runs to the hallway, and jumps around in circle a little bit, before running down the hallway to a bedroom. She is one excited, sleepy, dog!
She has to check in on her friend!
In the bedroom, she makes her way to a tall dresser where she knows Holly the bunny is sitting in her cage. When Skottke’s mom follows her into the room, she sees that Skottke is waiting patiently for a very special goodnight.
Although Skottke cannot reach up to the dresser to say goodnight to Holly herself, she waits patiently for her human to do it for her. Skottke’s mom turns her attention to Holly in her cage and wishes her a goodnight, all under the watchful eye of Skottke. The owner wishes Holly a sweet “night night Holly”, and gives her a pat before going to bed.
Afterwards, Skottke is finally ready for a good night’s sleep.
Only when this ritual is complete can Skottke jump up in bed and go to sleep. Skottke, Holly, and their human all probably have a very deep sleep after that sweet bedtime activity.
Interspecies animal friendships are always adorable.
This is not the first time that a friendship between two different species of animals has been formed and documented. There are all sorts of animals who befriend and care for one another! We think this a beautiful sign of coexistence and love within the Animal Kingdom. And, a bedtime routine that involves caring for your buddy is extra sweet.
