It is a known fact that most dogs will eat just about anything. And while this should be restricted to food, one dog is proving that he will jump at any opportunity for a quick snack. He is so eager to snatch some food when he can that his owner noticed he would come running at the mention of a simple word.

A dog named Heinz

Named Heinz, like the ketchup, the German shepherd simply has to hear the word, “oops” and he is there ready to grab up whatever morsel has fallen onto the floor.

“He’s always been all about food, like most dogs,” Karyn Dietz, Heinz’s mom, told The Dodo. “Thankfully he doesn’t hover too badly when [we’re] cooking, but often keeps a watchful and opportunistic eye on anyone eating, especially the kids.”

Always ready for a chance to grab a snack

All it takes is for one of the Dietz family members to be in the kitchen and Heinz is there, waiting and ready for any scraps to fall on the floor. But, unknown to the family, Heinz’s obsession with food even extends to when he isn’t in the room. It seemed he was on the lookout for fallen scraps all of the time.

Dietz came to this realization while she was working in the kitchen. She uttered the word, oops, and before she knew it Heinz was there searching for fallen bits of food. It was then that Dietz noticed a pattern with Heinz.

“I realized a few months ago that he is triggered to at least lookup or to come to check for food if I say ‘oops,’ ‘dammit’ or ‘shit,’” Dietz said. “He watches like a hawk when we eat popcorn.”

Heinz is very smart

A smart dog, Heinz quickly realized that when his family says these words that sometimes food on the floor isn’t too far behind. So, naturally, he has started to investigate when he hears one of the telltale words uttered.

Catching the whole adorable incident on video

Dietz was able to catch Heinz on video running into the room after she says oops. She did this because she finds the whole thing adorable and more than a little funny. Everyone else who has seen the video seems to think the same.

“I set him up for this video because what actually happened moments before was, I legitimately said “oops,” and he came bouldering down from upstairs,” Dietz said.

To let him continue or not?

The Dietz family may want to come up with some new ways to exclaim their dismay after dropping food on the floor if they want to dissuade Heinz from investigating. Chances are that this will be a never-ending process as Heinz seems smart enough to be able to figure out these new words too, eventually.

Then again, the family could just let him continue to grab any fallen morsels quickly off of the floor. Chances are, as long as it isn’t too much, he should be fine.
