All dogs are descended from wolves. But who would win in a fight? These dog/wolf friends were more than happy to demonstrate.

Most of us are content with having a dog for a pet. It’s pretty easy to see why. Dogs are amazing companions. But some people want to go for something a little more primal.

Smokey is mostly a wolf. Specifically, his genetics are 71% timberwolf and 29% malamute. Naturally, he’s a big boy.

The wolf’s owner loves him.

The owner’s son opted for something a little tamer when it came to adopting a pet. He took in Charlie, a German Shepherd.

Of course, German Shepherds are pretty fearsome dogs. But he looked tiny in comparison to Smokey.

Luckily, the two animals got along well. Soon, Charlie and Smokey had formed their own little pack. But of course, a big part of their friendship was play fighting.

One day, Charlie’s owner decided to record one of the dogs’ play fights. The footage sure is something.

For the first couple of minutes, the dogs nip back and forth as they lie next to each other.

Then Charlie gets up to scratch an itch. That marked the unofficial end to the first fight.

A little later, Charlie went back up to Smokey for some more tussling. Both of the animals were more energetic this time around.

Eventually, Smokey lay down, and Charlie kept on rushing in until he was worn out.

The owners decided that the fight had ended in a draw.

Smokey seemed to have been trained very well. He had a lot of wolf genes, yet he appeared to be pretty tame.

But owning a dog/wolf hybrid is no easy job. In America, the federal government classifies them as domestic animals. But many states, counties and cities treat them as wild animals.

And the legality of owning a wolf/dog hybrid is just one part of the equation. They can be pretty hard to train. And naturally, there can be a lot of issues along the way.

Wolf/dog hybrids have been known to eat couches, tear through drywalls and cause other kinds of damage.

And typically, wolf/dog hybrids have huge levels of curiosity, mark their territory with urine more frequently, have the urge to build dens/dig often and can extend their predatory instincts to anything that isn’t a fellow wolf.

But of course, some people will still want to adopt a wolf/dog hybrid anyway. If you’re dead set on getting one, and it’s legal where you live, then we aren’t going to be able to stop you. Just know that what you see in YouTube videos is only the tip of the iceberg. They can be dangerous animals and require lots of work!
