Dogs are easy to trick. This does not mean you should do it but only to say that if you want to, it’s not all that hard. It’s about as simple as pretending to throw a ball and then watching them run after it. You can tell a dog you are taking them to the park when you are really taking them to the vet and they will believe you.

Unfortunately, it can be very difficult sometimes to get our lovable little canines to do things that are in their own best interest. This is why we have to roll up their medication in foods they like. Some dog owners have found that they have to trick their furry friends into going to the vet as well. This is the story of one such family.

Don’t say “Vet” around the dog!

In many homes with dogs, there are certain words that cannot be said out loud. “Walk” is usually amongst these as the word will often make dogs lose their mind believing they are about to embark on a fun activity.

Another forbidden word in some dog homes is “Vet.” If a dog comes to believe their humans want to take them to the vet, they will hide or run away.

Why do dogs hate the vet so much?

Do you see how they sometimes take a dog’s temperature at the vet? Their attitudes towards veterinarians are not altogether surprising. Plus, the dog doesn’t know what’s going on. They have no idea why there is a thermometer in an uncomfortable place, they just know there is a thermometer in an uncomfortable place!

If dogs knew that we take them to the vet because we love them and want them to be healthy, perhaps they would be nicer to us about it.

Enzo goes to the vet for allergies.

The description of the video reveals that the dog’s name is Enzo and his family is taking him to the vet because his allergies are acting up.

“Enzo is going to the vet for a check up. His family recently moved from a northern state to a southern state, his allergies did not appreciate that at all. But all is well with Enzo now!” reads a description of the video.

The family convinced Enzo he was off to the park but really the car ride would end with a trip to the vet.

Try to put yourself in Enzo’s position in this video. It’s just a normal day, you’re hanging out with your human pals and then someone says your going to go to the park! Wow, the park! After a fun drive in the car, you will be running around and smelling unique smells all afternoon long!

Then you notice you are in the veterinarian parking lot. What deception from those who you trusted! What other lies do they tell you? Am I not even really a good boy? As upset as they were, we can’t help but find their reaction truly adorable.

How to take your dog to the vet without lies.

Perhaps you believe the best way to a healthy relationship with your pet is through honesty. If that is the case, there are plenty of things you can do to reduce your dog’s anxiety about the vet:

1. Bring your dog to the vet’s office periodically when they don’t have an appointment to say hello. This will teach them that the vet’s office doesn’t always mean rectal thermometers.
2. Take your dog for a long walk before taking them to the vet. This will tire them out a little.
3. Try a calming collar or natural anxiety aide.
4. Consider veterinarians who make house calls.
