Starving German shepherd on brink of life rescued with help of brave Pitbull

Dogs are awesome companions but they can also be good and useful workers. They provide a slew of services for our society whether it is working search and rescue missions, as service animals, or in other roles.

An animal rescue organization named No Kill Kern has a pit bull named Lucy.

She is not just a pet or a companion, Lucy is a valuable member of their team.

Lucy helps rescue a German shepherd.

No Kill Kern received a call regarding an abandoned dog left alone in a field. After hearing of this, the team set out to rescue them and Lucy came along.

Since Lucy’s sense of smell is greater than the human members of the team, she played a key role in helping them find the abandoned dog. Lucy led the team right to the poor dog who had been left alone in a field.

Had No Kill Kern not had a useful pitbull like Lucy, they may never have been able to find the abandoned dog.

Finding the abandoned German shepherd.

Unfortunately, the abandoned dog appeared to be fearful of humans. When she saw the group coming, she ran away as fast as she could. It’s likely that this poor girl had been hurt or abused by humans in the past.

Determined to help the abandoned German shepherd.

With the abandoned dog clearly afraid of people, the group would have to be clever if they wanted to rescue them. After thinking it through, they decided to set up a trap of sorts.

They placed a cage in the middle of the field and filled it with food.

The trap worked.

The cage was rigged to close once the dog entered it. They’d still get all the food but they would be stuck inside for the team to find her. It would have been frightening for the girl but in the end, it would help the team rescue her and give her the help she needed.

Once the girl was inside, they put a leash on her before opening the cage. After she had calmed down, the German shepherd was brought to a local shelter.

The abandoned German shepherd is given a name.

The dog was named Queen and as soon as she was in the shelter she was treated like one as well. Queen was given toys, food, and a few days to relax in a safe space. After a couple of days had passed, Queen started to become calmer and trusted the people around her.

Queen had a friend in the shelter to help her out too. Lucy the pit bull who had helped find her in the field that day soon become Queen’s best friend. It probably helped ease Queen’s anxiety having another dog around who clearly felt safe amongst these people.

Once Queen seemed comfortable around people she was transferred to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue.

Queen graduates from the Pawsitive Change Program.

“The goal of the Pawsitive Change Program is to aid in the rehabilitation of both humans and canines,” reads Marley’s Mutts website.

Marley’s Mutts entered Queen into their Pawsitive Change Program. She graduated and was renamed Reina.

“Marley’s Mutts partners with California state prisons to select 24-30 inmates and 8-10 at-risk shelter dogs for each prison program cycle. Over the course of 14 weeks, the inmates complete very challenging blocks of course work which involve weekly homework assignments and personal goals.”

Given a forever home.

After graduating from the Pawsitive Change Program, a new forever home filled with love and affection was found for the girl. Reina is probably pretty grateful that a helpful pit bull named Lucy was there to help her when she needed it most.
