German Shepherd cleverly saves boy from falling into water fountain
German Shepherd is an amazing dog breed that is best as home companions. If properly trained, their animal instinct and skills can be useful and great in so many ways.
According to dogtime.com:
“The German Shepherd Dog is one of America’s most popular dog breeds — for good reasons. They’re intelligent and capable working dogs. Their devotion and courage are unmatched. And they’re amazingly versatile.”
They are literally some four-legged lifesavers.
“GSDs excel at most anything they’re trained to do: guide and assistance work for the handicapped, police and military service, herding, search and rescue, drug detection, competitive obedience, and — last but not least — faithful companion.”
And just like some superheroes, they are always there when we need them.
Take this viral video as an example, everything seemed to be normal on an ordinary day. A young boy and girl were playing ball in the yard and beside them quietly watching was a German Shepherd.
The girl accidentally tossed the ball a little too strong that it went straight on a water fountain that’s situated in the corner of a fence. As soon as it landed on the water, she went inside to ask for help, perhaps from someone older than them.
Out of curiosity, the young boy tried to get the ball all by himself!
Not knowing the type of danger that might happen to him, he tried to retrieve the ball. So, he leaned forward while reaching for the ball. It’s a heart-pounding scene for anyone to watch.
Gladly, the spectating dog smelled danger and knew exactly what to do. When the dog realized that the ball was out of the young boy’s reach, the four-legged furry guardian immediately grabbed the boy’s shirt to get him out of danger.
It almost looked like the smart dog literally knew that the boy might fall down and possibly drown.
It is indeed dangerous to leave kids beside areas with water such as water fountains. Chances of drowning in it might be low but it could still put a child in all sorts of danger.
In fact, according to the World Health Organization, nobody is exempted from drowning.
“Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths.”
According to their records, there are an estimated number of 236,000 annual drowning deaths worldwide. It exempts absolutely nobody, it can happen to anyone.
If it had not been recorded, nobody would believe this happened.
Right after pulling the little boy to safety, the dog grabbed a pool net and scooped the ball out from the water.
After retrieving the ball, the dog returned it to the boy who was waiting calmly and patiently in a corner. It somehow looked like he was not surprised to see the dog do it.
But whether the German Shepherd does it regularly or not, what it did was still amazing.
The dog must’ve undergone hard training in order to master such lifesaving skills. I wonder what kind of training the dog had and what other skills does it have.
Above everything, this life-saving dog deserves more treats and cuddles from its humans. Good job doggo!
