German shepherd rushes to save pit bull trapped in the snow

Just like people, dogs can be of a differing mindset when it comes to snow. Some absolutely love it, while others cannot stand the frozen, white stuff. When one pit bull got stuck in the snow, his German shepherd brother was there to come to the rescue. Best of all, the whole thing was caught on video, leading to cuteness overload.

If you live in more northern climes, then you have probably experienced the occasional heavy snowfall. So, who could blame a little dog for complaining when caught outside in the snow? Fortunately, for one such pup, her best friend was nearby to save her.

Knuckles, a pit bull, and Kanawha, a German shepherd, live with their dad Brian Wagner. The trio had decided to take a walk in the snow when events took a turn for the worst.

It seemed that Knuckles, who wasn’t the best in the snow, had got trapped all alone in some high drifts near a dumpster. Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait long for help as her buddy Kanawha was there and ready to save her.

A daring rescue

At first, Wagner calls for Knuckles to come to him. All she can do is sit there in the high snow, barking her frustration. After getting her owner’s permission, though Kanawha quickly springs into action.

The reason for Knuckles’ reluctance could have to do with her specific breed. According to Scientific American, “Short dogs with short hair have bald bellies that, in snow of sufficient depth, very quickly become chilled. Extended periods in snow make them especially vulnerable to hypothermia.”

In the video, Kanawha, obviously more comfortable in the snow, bounds across the snowy landscape to her buddy’s side. Soon, she is right next to Knuckles.

Jumping around, Kanawha beats the snow down with her body, making it easier for Knuckles to make her way towards freedom. Soon, Knuckles feels confident enough to make her way out of her predicament.

Safe at last

The two doggie pals run together through the snow to safety at their owner’s side. Then begins a little play session as Kanawha lets her sister know everything is going to be okay.

It is clear in the video that Knuckles and Kanawha are best friends. And that no matter the danger, Kanawha will always be there for Knuckles. Chances are, for Knuckles, the feeling is mutual, as long as snow isn’t involved.
