Turning 15 in dog years is a pretty big deal.

At least, that’s how Jackie and her family see it.

These loving pet owners from Oklahoma know full well what their dog, Nova, deserves so they celebrated her birthday the proper way: with a quinceañera!

A quinceañera is the celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday. It highlights a young woman’s transition to adulthood. Widely celebrated throughout Latin America, the festivities typically involve special dances, gifts, and a scrumptious spread for all the guests to enjoy.

Apparently, it can be a perfect way to celebrate a German Shepherd’s coming of age, too! This family sure knows how to make their dog feel special.

Nova the German Shepherd had her own quinceañera.

The adorable dog, who bagged an award from obedience school, is said to be a stellar role model and is quite protective of her doggie sister, Phoebe. That’s why the celebration came at the right time and was undoubtedly well-deserved.

According to Jackie, her sister would always tease her about spoiling her dogs.

Recalling one of their conversations, Jackie shared,

“One time my sister-in-law said ‘the only thing that’s missing is birthday parties and a quinceañera for the dogs.’

“I said, ‘I think I’ll have one.'”

The sweet dog even had on a pink tutu and a tiara!

Her family gamely dressed up for the event, too.

As for food? Of course Jackie didn’t miss any details!

Nova’s guests enjoyed pizza, while she was presented with a special cake. Most quinceañeras have three to four-layer cakes, big, ball gowns, and sprawling venues.

Nova’s was simpler but it was filled with so much love that it could rival any quinceañera easily.

The sweet German Shepherd even got her special dance, too!

Now it wasn’t as intricate as the dances seen in traditional quinceañeras but it definitely wasn’t any less special.

Nova seemed to enjoy every bit of it, judging from the way she gamely wore the tutu and how she even rose on her legs for the dance. We’re sure her cake was gone in no time, too.

Jackie and her family’s love for their dogs is the perfect example of how you can fill your furry friend’s life with joy. You don’t always need grand gestures and expensive objects but you can celebrate them as often as you can.

In many different ways, you can show them just how much you value them. Jackie sure knows how to spoil her dogs and make their birthdays extraordinary!

Here’s hoping this inspires other dog owners to go the extra mile just to make their loyal pets feel special. After all, their lives are short but they’re able to fill ours with so much happiness.
