German Shepherds have a bad reputation. People stereotype them as being overly aggressive monsters. This video shows what they’re really like.

Getting tucked in at bedtime is one of the most comforting things about childhood. Alexander gets tucked in every single evening. But the family member doing the tucking in isn’t his mom or dad. Instead, it’s his German Shepherd older brother, Baron.

When Baron’s human mother became pregnant, she was worried that Baron would get jealous of the baby. But they were pleasantly surprised. Right away, Baron wanted to look after and protect his human brother, Alexander.

In fact, the parents always felt that Alexander was safe with Baron around. If the dog ever heard a strange noise, he would dart to Alexander’s protection.

But when Alexander transitioned from a crib to a bed, something really amazing happened.

Whenever Alexander would head to bed and say his prayers, Baron would be by his side and most of the time look like he was praying too.

Then Alexander would lay in his bed. And Baron would pull the covers over him nice and snug.

Alexander then read a book with Baron. After the story, Baron kissed Alexander. Lastly, Baron switched the light off and went to his own dog bed.

And Alexander had no idea that this was unusual dog behavior until his parents started filming it and sharing it online.

But Baron’s amazing talents don’t end there. He also helps Alexander out with cleaning up his toys.

And when he’s eaten his breakfast or dinner, he puts his bowl into the dishwasher.

Yet the dog’s most impressive skill is that he can make his parents coffee.

Baron is nothing short of a genius dog!

A video of Baron’s amazing talents then made its way onto YouTube. It soon went viral. To date it has gained over 4.8 million views. It also has more than 69,000 likes and 4,400 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Clearly, a lot of people are envious of Baron!

Since that video appeared, life has only gotten better for Baron and his family.

He now has two dog siblings, Audi and Arlo.

But very recently they gained an unusual new family member, a rat named Hootie. You would think that a rat and three German Shepherd dogs would be a recipe for disaster. But instead, the dogs have embraced the rat.

Stories like this show just how much people misrepresent German Shepherds.

As the American Kennel Club states, “German Shepherds will be gentle family pets and steadfast guardians.” The source does also say that their aloofness means that they do not immediately form friendships. And that’s probably a large reason why people think they’re mean dogs. They aren’t. It just takes a while to earn their trust.

Of course, another contributing factor as to why people are wary of German Shepherds is that they are often used in the police and military.

There’s a lot of footage out there of German Shepherds attacking people because of this. But the military and police use German Shepherds mainly because they’re highly trainable and extremely loyal, not because they’re especially aggressive. In fact, the world would be a much worse place without German Shepherds protecting us.
