German Shepherd patiently waits for mom's special word to wake each kid for school in the morning

Chevy the German Shepherd is many things. She’s a family pet, a guard dog, a playmate, and also an alarm clock. Albeit one you can toggle settings on.

The dog isn’t the only one under her mom’s care. Chevy has two “siblings” in the form of her mom’s kids.

The kids are of school-going age, and with that comes the need to wake up early.

I’m sure most people in the modern world know how difficult that is. Waking up early is way easier said than done. Even our phone alarms struggle to jolt us out of that comfy, deep sleep we love so much.

But school calls, and kids must answer. Whether they enjoy it or not.

Well, Chevy the German Sheperd here acts as a big helping hand. Or paw.

With her mom’s instructions and that little touch of a German Shepherd’s gentle nature, she’s taken up alarm clock duty.

Again, she needs mom’s word to do it. And that’s what makes this so cute.

It’s not a secret that, among dog breeds, German Shepherds are one of the smartest. Their trainability is why they’re the top choice for K9 units and therapy dogs. Chevy here is certainly no exception.

Now, I think waking up to a warm nudge and kiss from a German Shepherd beats an alarm any day. It certainly would for me.

Well, she’s doing way more than a nudge or a kiss.

At the sound of her mom’s “Go wake ’em up!”, Chevy bolts to the boy’s room and pounces right onto the bed.

German Shepherds can weigh up to 40 kilos, so that’s a whole lot of dog launching itself onto your bed. And it had the desired effect.

An exasperated “Moooom!” comes out from the boy’s mouth.

I don’t think he enjoyed that wake up too well, but it’s for his own good.

Sure, that doggy smell might get all up in your pillows. But we all have bad breath in the morning, so who are we to judge? Besides, your sheets might be long overdue for a change anyway.

And school can’t wait. Getting up sooner can help improve your grades, just like sleeping in might get you failing them. So Chevy here is being a bigger help than she realizes.

The sooner your mind and body are awake to start the day, the better. And that goes for learning too.

That’s not to say we wouldn’t enjoy a few more minutes of sleep. But your studies are your future, so don’t take them too lightly.

Boy number 2 needs a wake up as well. Chevy is happy to oblige.

This time, she barks at him too for good measure. As for his response, it’s about the same as his brother’s.

“Ring ring ring” can be really jarring to wake up to, but that’s the point. So “bark bark bark!” should work just as well, don’t you think?

Mom is proud that her boys are up for school, and that Chevy is to thank.

“Good job! Good job, Chevy!” – mom says enthusiastically.

The German Shepherd then happily runs off to the hallway right before the video ends.
