Yvetea Irsova opened Oasis of the Siberian Tiger in 1999. She thought that she’d seen it all. And then she saw the bond that Blacky, Hugo and Jenny formed with Suria.

In 2013, Suria the Siberian tiger was born in Oasis of the Siberia Tiger in Slovakia.

At the same time, the park’s owner, Yvetea Irsova, welcomed a litter of German Shepherds, Blacky, Hugo and Jenny.

As soon as they could all walk, the dogs and Suria began to play together.

And as the days passed, the dogs and the tiger only became closer. In fact, within weeks, they would want to spend all their time together.

Yvetea thought that as time passed, the animals would grow apart. But the weeks turned to months, and the animals showed no sign of separating.

Over the next two years, Yvetea and the others at the sanctuary saw the four animals all grow into adults. Even when adulthood came, the tiger and the dogs remained close.

And then Suria became pregnant. Naturally, for a while, Suria was a little less energetic.

But the dogs seemed to understand that their tiger best friend was with child. They were there with her along the way, providing support to the expectant mother.

Then Suria went into labor. As a precaution, the dogs couldn’t be in the room when Suria was giving birth. But they were all anxious to see her.

Suria gave birth to a boy cub, Sunny. Everything went well, and the mom and cub got to spend plenty of time together. Eventually, Yvetea decided that the dogs could meet Sunny.

They were overjoyed to see the little cub. And, of course, they were pleased to see Suria.

Over the next few months, the dogs treated Sunny as if he was their own child. Sunny soon formed a strong bond with the dogs. As far as Sunny knew, every tiger cub had a pack of German Shepherds to protect them!

Soon, of course, Sunny grew up. He ended up making his own friends.

But he still often likes to hang out with his German Shepherd aunt and uncles.

And the dogs and Suria still have an incredibly strong bond even to this day!

And if you’re ever in the village of Kostolna pri Dunaji in Slovakia, you can visit Suria and the dogs yourself!

In the present day, the sanctuary is home to 21 tigers.

And Oasis of the Siberian Tiger is doing important work in looking after these animals. The Siberian tiger is an endangered species. If it weren’t for the efforts of people like Yvetea, then who knows if this species would still be with us?

The sanctuary also provides the tigers with plenty of room to roam.

They have night shelters, a pool and plenty of other things to enjoy.
