Woman adopts giant, lovable stray not knowing she was getting “8 cats in 1”
We don’t always find our pets – sometimes they find us! And that is exactly how a woman named Rachel adopted her one cat… which quickly became cats!
She had always been a cat-lover but hadn’t made any plans to adopt. But plans change!
One day, she found an adorable stray had turned up on her porch. And she hadn’t come alone – she was pregnant and had a litter of kittens on the way!
“It didn’t take long before she had found her way into the house. Her face here says, ‘I knew you were a sucker’.”
The mother-to-be made herself right at home and looked hungry, so Rachel gave her some affection and food.
That little white and ginger feline was too charming to resist. Rachel named her Boots, and the next thing she knew, she was a proud new cat owner.
And she took on the role for not just one new fur ball, but all of the other cats that were due to come along with her.
Many would feel overwhelmed by taking on such a responsibility, but Rachel couldn’t have been more excited.
“She’s due any day and has started laying like a beached whale. It’s kind of hilarious and definitely cute. I want to meet these little kittens!!”
She took Boots to the vet and was told to expect five kittens at most.
A cat’s first litter is usually on the smaller side, between three and five, but after a cat has already had a pregnancy, that number can go up to eight or more. Record numbers have even reached as high as 19 babies, but of course that many is very unusual.
So Rachel took Boots back home and eagerly waited for the babies to be born.
And then one morning, Rachel awoke one morning to the beautiful sound of new baby kittens mewing. It had finally happened!
“We woke up to SEVEN baby beans in a cute kitten pile! I was shocked. We got six orange tabbies that look like mama and one solid white.”
Seven was certainly a little more than she expected. But the arrival of even one cat had been unexpected, so there was very little that could surprise her at this point.
Rachel took the opportunity to name those seven kittens after another iconic seven – Snow White’s dwarves!
The solid white kitten automatically earned himself the standout title of Doc, for being bossy. A born leader! He and the others, Dopey, Sleepy, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, and Sneezy are all settling in well, and Boots is being a great mama!
It’s incredible that the little stray ginger knew exactly what to do, and actively found a good home where she could give birth under shelter and with lots of available food. She’s a clever girl!
Rachel feels honored that Boots chose her to help care for her babies and cherishes the experience they got to share.
“Boots adopted me and I just went with it,” Rachel said. “Seven babies is a tad overwhelming but it’s an incredibly special experience.”
Keeping eight cats in the house is a lot, so once the kittens are old enough she plans to help them all find good homes.
But she and Boots have already formed such a strong bond, she won’t be going anywhere!
