Little girl “high fives” priest in the middle of her blessing
Depending on your background and tradition, church can be a complicated place! If you don’t know what you’re walking into on a Sunday morning, you could find yourself clapping while everyone else is kneeling or laughing while everyone is praying! There are few things as embarrassing as messing up the routine while you are in church.
One group of people doesn’t seem to care about being embarrassing at church, however.
If you are a parent, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s kids. Kids have ZERO care about doing things by the rules or following some orderly service structure. When something comes to their mind, they act.
One of the mortifying questions a kid can ask is, “are you pregnant”?
Kids have a knack for finding someone who isn’t pregnant and confirming that fact. While it’s usually obvious WHY a kid asks someone if they will have a baby soon, it doesn’t make it any less terrifying when it happens. After yanking your kid away and apologizing, your only option left is to leave the store and hope you never run into that person again.
When you mix these little “un-embarassable” creatures in a religious and ordered environment, hilarious things happen.
In a recently released video, we see exactly what happens when you put a kid in front of the entire church and ask them to follow the rules. Wrong move, mom. You should have seen it coming. Honestly, after seeing it, you can’t blame the kid.
A mom and her daughter are seen walking up to the front of the room, towards the priest.
They are dressed to impress and look splendid! Part of the Sunday morning struggle is just getting your kids into clothes that aren’t covered in food and mud. You can also tell that this is a recent video, courtesy of the matching masks they are wearing.
The mother is taking her kid up to receive a blessing from the priest.
Everything is going as planned. The two are up there, the priest is praying, and he is about to bless the girl. After a few Latin words and a hand motion, the priest moves to bless her.
When the priest moves out his arm, the bless the girl, it’s almost obvious what the little girl did next.
The way that the priest reached out his hand triggered the girl to respond in the only way she knew how. Up to this point in her life, everyone reaching their flattened hands out was looking for a high-five, why should this priest be any different?
After stretching out his hand, the girl went for it.
The biggest insult an adult can say to a kid is that they are “too slow” when missing a high-five. With a little tip-toed reach, the girl slips the priest a high-five. Almost immediately, the crowd and priest laugh. It really looked like the guy was asking for a quick high five!
As he finished out the blessing, he is finally able to place his hand on the girl’s forehead.
The best part is that whoever was filming this, hoping to record a spiritual moment, got something hilarious that they can all look back on.
