Girl who volunteers at shelter in tears as parents adopt her favorite dog

Owning a dog is a big responsibility, particularly for those who are still studying. It requires time, money, and a lot of hard work.

When Hallee Fuqua asked her parents if they could get a dog, the answer she got was a big “no”.

They wanted her to focus on her studies first. Once she’s done with Oklahoma State University, she can get any dog.

However, that answer didn’t satisfy Hallee.

She decided to be one of the volunteers at the Humane Society of Still water. There, she met one special dog.

Hallee got introduced to a very loving and playful dog named Rambo.

It was love at first sight for the Plott Hound and Mountain Cur mix and the young volunteer.

It didn’t take a long time before the pair was able to establish a really strong bond.

“She would come in and just sit with him. They connected from day one,” The shelter’s director, Jackie Ross-Guerrero, shared

For Hallee, Rambo was special.

“He was quiet. A lot of the dogs would bark but he just sits there …He is a ginormous cuddler. He thinks he’s a giant lap dog,” Halle recalled.

The young girl was so smitten by the dog’s charm. As they grew closer, Hallee started sharing photos and videos of Rambo with her mom and dad.

At that point, the family (particularly the mom) was having a sudden change of heart.

They knew they had to get that dog for Hallee.

Without their daughter’s help, the parents started the process of adopting Rambo. At first, it wasn’t easy. They had to keep it a secret to Halle so they needed to work with the staff privately.

One day, Hallee heard that Rambo got adopted. It was devastating for her. She grew close to the dog and was so used to seeing him each time she was in the shelter. It broke her spirit.

Then, a few days before Christmas, Hallee’s parents revealed their surprise.

Early that day, Hallee’s dad went to the shelter to get Rambo.

Since the family wanted the surprise to be more special, they set up the dog right by their front door. They made Rambo wear antlers to celebrate the season’s spirit.

When Hallee finally saw Rambo, she felt confused.

“I instantly knew it was him, but I also knew that he had been adopted. Then I finally put two and two together and a wave of emotions just crashed over me,”- she shared.

It was a heartwarming scene to watch and thankfully, Hallee’s mom was able to capture the precious moment on camera.

The video was viewed more than 5 million times.

One of its viewers said:

“The fact that she was heartbroken when she found out he’d been adopted but didn’t know it was by her parents! SO SWEET!!”

Rambo was excited to see Hallee, too.

Once he saw her, he couldn’t stop wagging his tail. He was super excited to give his human a nice warm hug.

It was the best Christmas for Hallee and Rambo.
