According to the Boston Children’s Hospital, Morquio syndrome is a genetic condition affecting a child’s bones, spine, organs, and physical abilities. This leads to difficulty in walking over time.

People with this condition need to use walking aids such as crutches or even wheelchairs to get from one place to another.

Bella Burton was diagnosed with Morquio syndrome over 10 years ago.

The young woman gradually lost her ability to walk by herself and she had difficulties moving around.

However, all of that changed when George, her service dog, came along.

“I got around on crutches or in a wheelchair and I’m just like, I don’t want to do this anymore,” Bella shared with BARK.

Despite her condition, Bella still had the heart and will to volunteer for a non-profit organization for a year.

She chose the Service Dog Project to work with and as a result of her service, the organization gave Bella her own service dog.

There was an instant connection when Bella and George met for the first time.

Megan Kokaras, a trainer at Service Dog Project, could still remember how she knew the two were meant to be best friends forever.

“One day Bella climbed up with George and she was talking to George and, the next thing you know, his head was in her lap and he was looking at her like she was the best thing in the world,” she recounted.

It was a moment that both Bella and George will never forget. They finally met each other’s best buddy.

“I could tell he needed me and I needed him,” Bella said. “The first time I walked with George, it was amazing. It was like I haven’t walked in so long. And now it’s like, I can do it again.”

Meeting George gave Bella a new way to move around again.

George helped Bella to the best he could, and the girl and her mom, Rachel, saw just how dedicated the dog was when it came to serving Bella. The pup is all the they could ask for.

With these in mind, Bella and Rachel immediately thought about nominating George for a “Dog’s Best Day”, after hearing that such a program exists to celebrate the incredible service being provided by service dogs like George.

This amazing treat is given by BarkPost to all the deserving pups out there.

“George deserves Dog’s Best Day because he has changed the life of my daughter,” Rachel said.

BarkPost found out about Bella and George’s friendship and the inspiring service that the pup provides to her.

Because of this, BarkPost knew they had to award the dog with the opportunity of having the “Dog’s Best Day” prize. They got in touch with the family and prepared the best day ever for George.

The best day begins.

George was scheduled to be pampered and treated with his favorites and to start off her incredible day, the dog was brought to the Copley Plaza Hotel, where the doorman even opened the door wide to welcome him.

The hotel vice-president personally welcomed Bella and George to the building.

The next place on the best day list was Wahlburger because George loves burgers so much!

However, being a service dog meant not being allowed to consume human food, so he does not really get to enjoy his favorite burgers.

But because it is a day just for him, he even got his 10 burgers on a platter. Yum!

A day in the snow.

After the yummy treat, George was brought outside where he and Bella played in the snow.

He had a really great time running around and just being a simple dog who enjoys playtime and outdoor activities.

The ski resort shut down the whole lift area to give room for Bella and George as they run, and ride the sled that cold day. But, of course, the tiring day outside needs to be capped off with delicious treats.

The dog went to the Polka Dog Bakery, where he was also welcomed with a big sign.

It was an amazing experience indeed. He was even given a dog-bone-shaped pillow that he loved so much.

“George loves the Dino-bone,” said Bella. “He’s making a big mess on the floor. I think we finally found a George-sized bone.”

The day was long but it was fun and exciting. Bella and George had such a great time.

When they went back to the hotel, they were greeted with lots of balloons and toys and a huge dog bed all for George. Wow!
