Little girl smiles at overlooked mama dog in shelter and turns her whole life around

Tragically, not every adorable four-footer out there can count on loving owners and having a warm and forever home.

Millions of dogs and cats have to survive on the streets, while there are also plenty of them that reside in shelters, sometimes for years.

At certain shelters, some animals who don’t get adopted have to be euthanized, so it’s important that four-footers find an adoptive family and a good home.

But sometimes that’s easier said than done.

It’s not uncommon for certain animals in shelters to be overlooked: medical issues, old age, or not responding well to kids – those are all examples of why some pets stay in the shelter, often depressed and lonely.

Suzie was one of those dogs.

She was already a mama dog and was overlooked by almost everyone because of her older age.

People prefer younger pooches who are healthy and energetic.

It’s understandable why people would rather choose dogs who won’t be having any illnesses or injuries anytime soon, but it’s still absolutely heartbreaking for those older dogs who simply can’t find a home.

For numerous months, Suzie witnessed how most of the other dogs at the shelter suddenly disappeared and found their home, while she just sat there without any attention from visitors.

The poor mama saw dogs come and go, but it was never her turn.

One day, that all changed when a little girl visited the shelter.

Suzie’s story was highlighted by Save a Hound, and their video report went viral online. They posted it hoping that someone would see it and adopt Suzie for who she is, but they certainly didn’t expect to reach over 8.6 million views on YouTube!

“If this video about a shelter dog doesn’t move you, check your pulse!” the title reads, and it’s definitely not an exaggeration.

In the video, we learn about Suzie’s life before and at the shelter.

Of course, it’s a good thing that shelters exist, especially no-kill shelters, but these animals are still confined to a small space and would much rather spend their days at a loving home.

Suzie was always hopeful when visitors came but they always chose other pups.

When the little girl arrived, the shelter staff wasn’t particularly hopeful that she’d pick Suzie, but she just couldn’t stop smiling at her as Suzie sat by the window. It seems as if the dog was a bit shocked that someone was interested too.

Their encounter is absolutely heartwarming, as the little girl crouches so that she’s on Suzie’s level, extending her hand on the glass and smiling all the way through.

Suzie responded by lifting up her paw to touch the glass.

It was clear that these two wanted to know each other a little bit better.

A couple of weeks after Suzie met this little girl, her life was completely turned around for the better! She now gets to be able to spend time with her human best friend every single day!

The girl’s family recognized the special connection they had, so they decided to adopt.

Just look at this adorable pair now!
