Group of 30+ dancers line up for The Git Up Challenge and show anyone can do it

Just because weâve entered a new decade doesnât mean the 2019 trend of participating in The Git Up Challenge is in the past.
And the challenge videos â submitted by everyone from first responders and physicians to kids and their parents â are still being uploaded and viewed by hundreds of thousands of people each day on social media sites from Tik Tok and YouTube.

If you havenât got a clue what weâre talking about, the synchronized dance craze is based on the country-rap song âThe Git Up,â by Blanco Brown.
The âchallengeâ is to simply do the coordinated dance described in the lyrics. Sounds easy enough, right?
Try this:
âGoân and do the two-step, then cowboy boogie // Grab your sweetheart and spin out with âem // Do the hoedown and get into it // Take it to the left now and dip with it // Goân throw down, take a sip with it // Now lean back, put your hips in it // Letâs have some fun.â

If you donât feel ready to dive right into filming yourself after hearing that description, luckily Blanco Brown released a video with all of the steps so you can break it down.
The dance is pretty easy, which is part of the reason so many people have learned it and uploaded their performances (for better or worse). Itâs also the reason weâre starting to see it at proms and weddings â everyone, no matter what their age, can participate. And to top it off, the moves arenât risque in any way. Itâs basically line dancing.
For those who need a better teacher than the Internet, there are places like the Rockinâ Horse Dance Barn in Renton, Washington.
A video they posted â presumably of folks who arenât typically involved in dance â shows the fruits of a lesson by one of their instructors. In it, people of all ages work their way through the steps â and itâs another great instructional video if Brownâs doesnât work for you.
(If youâre truly rhythm-challenged, the instructor has broken it down further in this video.)

The group is led by an instructor in a cowboy hat who enters the room to a round of high-fives. His class is pumped up and ready to go! And the dance school looks like a fun and non-judgemental place for people of all ages and abilities to learn some new moves.

Commenters are loving the video, which gives them hope that they too might be able to âGit Upâ at the next wedding they attend:

This class looks to be full of beginners. They know the steps, theyâre confident enough to film themselves, but they still have some time to add their own special âspiceâ to the dance.
Thereâs definitely room for freestyling in the challenge, but itâs not mandatory â it might take a martini or two at an event to get some people to loosen up.

For now, it looks like the dance challenge is here to stay (move over, Electric Slide!), so you never know when the song might come on at the next wedding you attend.
Maybe itâs time to learn a few moves.
But in the meantime, be sure to scroll down and watch students from the Rockinâ Horse Dance Barn get down to âThe Git Up.â
