Flash mob entertains travelers with ABBA tune as they board their flights in Scotland
No one expects a flash mob – especially in an airport of all places.
It seemed like just another day at the Glasgow Prestwick airport in Scotland back in 2015.
As a couple dropped off their bags, two airport workers responded to them in song. They laughed it off at first.
But then a harmonizing got louder and it drew the attention of other customers waiting to check in.
What was going on?
And then there were three. And four.
Oddly enough, no one seems too stressed about being late for their flight.
In the end, the group is small but mighty and they’re there to rock out to some ABBA, presumably as a surprise for the woman who was originally checking in at the beginning of the video.
And the group manages to do quite the mashup of the band’s greatest hits!
They get “Money, Money, Money,” “SOS,” “Super Trouper,” “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Waterloo,” AND and “Thank You For the Music” in there!
Of course, everyone has their phone out and is recording the performance. It’s not every day you see shiny, happy people at the airport after all.
The singers happen to be members of a group called Impromptune, based in the UK.
And while it’s clear that their vocals are great, the audio for the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Apparently, you just had to be there.
We feel like party poopers for saying so, but once we realized there were going to be multiple songs, we got pretty nervous about people getting to their gates on time.
But the audience is smiling away without a care in the world!
Suddenly, the group needs backup and three more people dressed as airport employees join the fray.
Now we’re talking!
Despite the audio, viewers absolutely loved the performance when it was uploaded to YouTube in June of 2015.
“I reckon that is one of the best flash mobs I’ve ever seen. Small but beautiful. Well planned, witty, well sung, perfect. Brightened my day. Thank you.”
Plenty of people mentioned the patience of the passengers in line as well:
“Not one person was worried about getting on their plane in time….love it.”
This great performance proves that size doesn’t matter when it comes to flash mobs. It’s hardly a “mob,” but the effect is the same – to delight people at a random time and place with an impressive performance.
And while there’s not much choreography, there’s some – although this moment is all about the vocals.
We’re sure the recipient was delighted at her send-off.
And not only are we impressed that the members of the flash “mob” represent quite a range of ages, but ABBA fans clearly do too! The video has been viewed over 1.4 million times since it was uploaded years ago.
No doubt there were some repeat viewers, judging by comments like these:
