Dad buys car for his daughter then finds a touching note left by the previous owner in glovebox

Basically, all cars are the same, right? They all have tires, a steering wheel, an engine, and so on. Well, not necessarily. It’s true that a lot of people don’t give much thought about their vehicles. But for a select few, their cars have special personality and character. In fact, some people go as far as to give them names.

Often, a parent will step in to help a first-time driver get a car. After all, they’re more concerned about safety and reliability than how cool their son or daughter will look cruising around town. That was the case for Kevin Duke. With his daughter’s 16th birthday just around the corner, he wanted to choose just the right automobile for her.

For this dad, safety was paramount.

If his daughter is going to start driving, she needed a trustworthy vehicle. In his quest to find the best car, one, in particular, caught his eye. Being a safety-conscious father meant checking everything, outside and inside. That included opening up the glovebox. But the last thing he expected to find was an envelope with the words “New Car Owner – Important Info Inside.”

Kevin had opened the glovebox six times before finding the note.

When we say this dad was thorough, we weren’t kidding. He’d already looked inside the glovebox six times yet somehow missed seeing the envelope. It was during his seventh go-around when he spotted it. What on earth was the “important info” contained inside the mysterious envelope? After opening it, he began to read a letter written by the previous owner.

Never in his wildest dreams did he expect to find something so heartfelt and genuine.

The writer explained that the car had belonged to her late mother. Only recently, she’d lost her mom, an aunt, and her six-year-old daughter in a fire. This car meant a lot to the previous owner. But due to a mix-up with insurance, there wasn’t any coverage. The only way to pay the funeral expenses was to sell it.

Initially, Kevin thought the prior owner was upset.

But that wasn’t the case. The writer even said so in the letter, saying she wasn’t mad. Quite the opposite. She hoped this would turn out to be the best car the new owner had ever bought. Then she began to share some of her fondest memories of the vehicle. She wrote about taking road trips with the windows rolled down and Country Western music blaring.

She shared even more with the new owner.

After writing about a small dent in the fender caused by her daughter while learning to ride her bike, she wrote the new owner find a chicken nugget, crayon, or sucker stick somewhere left inside. Then, she dropped a bombshell. This car had a name — Sylvia. The one thing she begged of the new owner was to never change it.

This car was full of life and love.

Kevin was beyond touched by this woman’s beautiful story. So, he decided to post it on social media in hopes of finding the person who penned it. Eventually, the young lady came forward. That’s when Kevin had an idea. He would start an online fundraising campaign so he could return Sylvia to its rightful owner.

Not only did he accomplish that goal but he also ended up with enough money to buy his daughter Jada a replacement vehicle. This wasn’t just any ordinary car but one with a lifeful of memories. Although Kevin’s kindness won’t bring the woman’s family back, returning Sylvia did give her a piece of the life she had before.
