Bringing a new dog into a home with an already established family pet can go one of a few ways: The two animals don’t get along together and the owner has to give one or the other up, they are indifferent to each other and avoid any contact, or they become best friends.

Fortunately, the latter is what happened with a golden retriever when a new puppy was brought into his home. A video of the two has gone viral.

As the video begins, the golden retriever’s owner is seen holding the puppy, which is so small that he fits in the palms of her hands. Holding the small, black pup in this fashion, she brings the little guy over to the golden retriever so that he can get a good look. The older dog seems curious as he looks at the tiny puppy.

Next, the golden retriever is shown sniffing the little puppy as he sits in a cardboard box. As the puppy tries to climb out, the older dog brings a shoe over to the box as if he is trying to teach him what he will need to know when he grows up, especially how to chew on a shoe.

As the older dog tries to teach his little brother about toys, he takes the opportunity to get a good sniff of him. Chances are that he is confused as to exactly why the little guy is in his home. It can be a little confusing for many pets when their owners bring a new pet into the home. So, it is always a good idea to introduce the new pet gradually until your other pets can get used to them.

The two quickly become best friends

Next, the two spend some time eating a snack together; though, the puppy needs to work on his technique. His older brother has his back and offers the puppy some of his broken-up apple instead. It just goes to show the generosity of many dogs, especially golden retrievers, who are known for their happy, playful, and helpful nature.

Growing up together

Soon, the video switches to the two dogs playing together. The little dog proves himself very brave as he runs around and climbs on the older dog. And while they snap each other, it is only in play and not true animosity. Eventually, there is one thing the golden retriever is unwilling to share with the little puppy … a rag, which he quickly takes away.

The video contains many scenes of the two together as the puppy gets older. At one point, the video shows the older and younger dog taking a walk together. Of course, the older dog has to slow down as the puppy struggles to keep up. This just goes to show the love the older dog has for his little brother.

The video, which was posted online, has gotten over 15 million views. You can watch the adorable video below of the two as the puppy grows up.
