Golden Retriever shares sweetest bond with deer for 11 years and becomes part of the family
Deer are some of the most gentle creatures found in nature. They are often very curious about other animals, including dogs. Golden retrievers, such as the one featured in this story, are some of the friendliest animals in nature as well.
It’s perhaps not surprising then that from time to time, dogs and deer become best friends.
G-Bro and Buttons become friends.
The dog and deer in this story both have excellent names. The Golden retriever is named G-Bro and the deer is named Buttons. Over the course of a decade, G-Bro and Buttons have become quite close. Their bond started to develop shortly after G-Bro’s family adopted Buttons.
G-Bro’s family takes in Buttons.
Tragically, Buttons lost her mother at a young age after she was hit by a car. G-Bro’s family took in the young deer.
âWhen we first rescued Buttons, we had a friend that had raised a deer, and somebody called them and said a mama deer was hit by a car. They called us, and we had the knowledge from our friend of how to raise a deer. It took a lot of work, but our whole goal was to let her be wild, but also become a part of the family,â G-Broâs owner explained.
The family has a large amount of land and has converted 8 miles of it into hiking trails. This makes it the ideal environment for both G-Bro and Buttons.
A lovely inter-species family.
The family also has a cat and they all love to go for walks on their property together. Some humans, a Golden Retriever, a cat, and a deer make up their loving inter-species family.
The family documents their travels on the Brown Family Hiking Trails Instagram account.
Buttons comes to visit G-Bro.
Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to see one of your friends so you’d just show up at their house? That’s what Buttons will do when she wants to see G-Bro.
âButtons will just show up at the door, and thatâs when you know she wants to see her buddy. Sheâll even paw at the door if youâre not answering in a timely manner.â
Buttons invites G-Bro to meet her babies.
G-Bro and Buttons are so close that when Buttons became a mother, she trusted G-Bro around her babies. G-Bro is always very gentle with the little deer, he loves them like an Uncle.
Buttons seems to really enjoy watching G-Bro play with her babies as well.

Buttons likes to give G-Bro a bath.
While G-Bro doesn’t seem to mind helping Buttons with some babysitting, Buttons knows just how to pay back her good friend. Buttons will regularly clean G-Bro by giving him a good o’l tongue bath. G-Bro then returns this favor by doing the same to Buttons’ fawns.

While the two bonded animals have many activities they enjoy together, their favorite appears to be hiking. They love going on walks through the woods and countryside.
Even during the winter, the two good friends love to play in the snow with one another.
If you ever find a friend you are as close with as G-Bro and Buttons are, cherish them, they are what life’s all about.
