Golden retriever plays wind chimes every day just so she can sing along

Dogs don’t “sing,” per se, but they do enjoy howling along to certain pitches.

Animal experts have theorized that when they do this it’s because a particular note reminds them of another dog’s howl and they’re trying to communicate back.

While we’ve seen dogs do a duet along with the radio, television, or live music, we’ve never seen one with an interest in wind chimes – until now.

This is Bleu, a 4-year-old golden retriever from Wilmington North Carolina, who accompanies her daily singing lessons by “playing” the wind chimes.

She’s a double threat!

It all began when she was just a puppy.

It turns out Bleu stumbled into the wind chimes one day after her mom, Ana Brown, had moved them close to the ground while doing some work in the garden.

“When she was really, really little, like 4 months old, she walked outside and her head hit the wind chimes because they were down so low,” Brown told The Dodo. “We kinda freaked thinking that would be horrible for her ears — but she just started singing.”

Apparently, something about those particular chimes activated a response in Bleu.

And she doesn’t seem to be reacting in pain since she’s now made a habit of visiting them.

Brown says that the sweet girl now heads outside at least once a day to play and chimes and howl, all the time wagging her tail and having a grand old time.

“It’s the most precious thing when she looks at you and sings, hitting her head against the wind chimes.”

Brown has started a Facebook page with videos and photos of Bleu – and she’s also using the site to raise awareness of rectal and colon cancer, diseases that statistics say 5% of Americans will be diagnosed with at some point in their lives.

Brown lost her sister to colon cancer 10 years ago and is now the President and co-founder of The Blue Ribbon Run, a non-profit that raises awareness for the disease, as well as money for those who are suffering from colorectal cancer and need financial assistance.

Blue is actually named after the organization.

The “run” took place virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the videos get thousands – and sometimes tens of thousands – of views, we’d say that a lot more people are now aware of the non-profit thanks to Bleu.

Viewers simply can’t get enough of the dog rubbing her head against the chimes for musical accompaniment.

“I don’t know if she loves the sound, or if she knows she can play it herself,” Brown added. “It’s almost like she tries to keep in tune with it.”

And Bleu won’t settle for just any windchime – only one will do and that’s the original chime she ran into as a puppy.

“My mom got us a really nice wind chime for Christmas and [Bleu] won’t touch it,” Brown said. “She wants nothing to do with it. She just wants the wind chimes that she’s used to.”
