Sweet golden retriever puppies have playtime – staff finds them hiding and holding “hands”
Billie, a golden retriever is a very friendly puppy. She even has her own Instagram, goldengirl.billie, where her fans can check out photos of the sociable dog. When her mom, Emily Buchenberger, took her to a puppy play hour, she had no idea how quickly little Billie would make friends.
Billie meets some new friends at puppy play hour
As a part of puppy play hour, owners bring their dogs between the age of 8 and 18 weeks, to play with other dogs. During this time the dogs are allowed to play together in an obstacle-filled room. And not just golden retrievers take part, as owners bring a variety of breeds to the play hour. On this particular day, all of the golden retrievers found each other and got together.
“The goldens have similar play styles so they immediately clicked,” Buchenberger told The Dodo. “There might as well not have been the other 15 puppies at puppy hour because the goldens were attached to each other like glue.”
The golden retriever puppies form their own club
Buchenberger watched as Bille and the other golden retrievers got together and seemed to form a secret club only for them. The puppies even went so far as to hold their own secret meetings, hiding under various plastic obstacles around the room together, mostly unseen by observers.
“Most puppies ran around or jumped onto the objects, but not the goldens,” Buchenberger said. “They almost exclusively played with each other underneath the objects in secrecy.”
Suspicion arises as to whet the puppies are doing
Some of the adults in the room got suspicious of the golden retrievers’ activity. So, a dad of one of the other puppies took action, picking up the plastic object they were hiding under. As the owner lifted the hiding area off of the puppies, the others in the room were shocked. The puppies seemed to be holding hands.
The golden retriever puppies were holding paws
“We found them all calmly interlocking paws,” Buchenberger said. “They definitely were not expecting to be exposed and immediately dispersed. Soon after, they met back up underneath the bridge to secretly play.”
Billie is one popular, little puppy
Hiding under objects is normal for Billie as she does this when at home. What was odd was that all of the golden retrievers at the puppy playtime seemed to exhibit the same behavior. Which leaves one to wonder, is this behavior common among golden retrievers or was Billie able to influence the others to take on how she acts?
