When it comes to dogs, there are multiple breeds, all of them with unique personalities and character traits. Take the Golden Retriever as a perfect example. As the name implies, this particular dog loves to retrieve things. There are stories on the internet of these pups gathering trash, neighbor’s socks, and a host of other items.

But one Golden Retriever had something completely different in mind. After finding a scrawny stray kitten, she decided it needed a home. So, she did what this breed does, she retrieved the kitty right back to her owner’s home.

No…they’re not natural enemies

The idea that cats and dogs are enemies is nothing more than a myth. In the real world, yes, they chase each other and protect their own kind. But for the most part, they get along. If you could spy on these animals that live on the streets, you’d see some pretty remarkable things happen.

Some cats and dogs become best friends

For animals that live in the same household, it’s common for them to become buddies. You’ll see cats and dogs eating together, playing, and even cuddling up for an afternoon nap. For a docile breed like the Golden Retriever, this is especially true.

Showing her protective side

One female Golden Retriever came upon a tiny kitten that was obviously lost. Without hesitating, she scooped it up in her mouth, just as she would’ve done if it had been one of her pups. In a video that’s now been viewed more than 2 million times, it initially looks like the dog’s trying to kill the cat.

Nope…she’s just retrieving it

Somehow, this sweet pup knew the kitten needed help and she was more than willing to oblige. But that’s not where the story ends. After getting the kitten to a safe place, this Golden Retriever begins to clean her off. After all, the poor thing’s been roaming the streets. This pup’s acting just like a protective mama.

She even helps train the kitty

It doesn’t take long before these two share a special bond. After getting the little white kitten cleaned up, the Golden Retriever goes into training mode. She carries this baby over to the litter box to make sure she doesn’t have any accidents inside the house. Now that’s going above and beyond the call of duty.

Kitty’s not going anywhere

With an instant friendship, the owner had no choice but to adopt the kitten, for her pup, of course. After giving the baby a bottle, she begins to play. Even then, the Golden Retriever is happy to assist but in a very gentle and loving way.

An exhausting but productive day

After all the work the Golden Retriever put in and the fact the kitten’s still so young, they decide it’s time for a nap. As one commented said, “What a way to start the day seeing this video of two precious babies.” And she’s right.
