Golden Retriever waits on baby brother to arrive and falls hopelessly in love
For most parents, welcoming a new baby home is an exciting experience. For those parents who have a dog at home, however, it can feel a bit challenging. After all, dogs like routines and having a new baby around means a lot of changes. From shorter walks to less attention, there are so many things a dog will have to adjust to once the baby arrives.
Sadie, a 5-year-old Golden Retriever, had a different response after learning that she was going to be a big sister.
She was actually excited about it. The Golden Retriever eagerly waited for the day where she could finally meet the newest member of her growing family.
It was a long wait but then one day, the baby came!
After Tyler’s birth, Sadie became a bit possessive (but in a good way). She guarded him all the time. She would often watch him nap or play with his toys.
No matter what, the Golden Retriever is always there for her little brother.
Whether it’s playtime or nap time, you can always find Sadie right next to her little brother Tyler. They would do everything together.
There was just one problem.
Golden Retrievers are naturally big dogs. Because of her size, Sadie has to be really gentle with her baby brother. She couldn’t run around with Tyler or play rough with him. Or, at least not yet.
Fortunately, this Golden Retriever is a very patient dog.
Most of the time, Sadie would just sleep next to the baby. She would look after him to make sure that nothing bad happens to him, and whenever she heard him cry, she would give him lots of kisses.
They would eat together, too.
Tyler is a picky eater. No matter how hard his mom tried to convince him to eat his vegetables, he would strongly refuse. Sadie rescued him each time and still does.
She would gladly eat a piece of broccoli so Tyler wouldn’t have to. When it comes to ice cream, however, it’s a different story. Since both of them love it, the two of them opt to eat their favorite ice cream together and there is nothing cuter.
Tyler is growing up slowly.
And Sadie is loving every minute she spends with her little brother in the meantime. She gets lots of hugs and kisses from Tyler. In return, Sadie shows him an admirably unwavering loyalty and trust.
Dogs have a way of knowing if their human is pregnant.
Once they realize it, they’ll start behaving differently. They’ll often become more gentle and careful around their human. However, as part of ensuring safety, you need to know how to introduce a newborn baby to your dog. To start, consider establishing boundaries. Begin by not allowing your dog to enter the nursery. Little by little, you can start allowing your dog to enter the room with supervision.
Once it’s time for the introduction, be in control.
You can make the process easier if you drain all of your dog’s energy first. This way, your dog will be in a relaxed state when meeting the baby. Of course, always prioritize your baby’s safety. Don’t push the introduction if you know that your dog isn’t ready. As much as possible, take the process slowly.
If you take the time to do this, there is no question your baby will have the ultimate childhood best friend growing up. Trust us, there’s nothing that can beat that.
