Hero Goldendoodle swims out to middle of lake to rescue baby deer from drowning

Dogs are loving and compassionate animals. Not only do they care for their owners and other dogs, but they also care for other animals, especially those in need. This was proved by a Goldendoodle named Harley after she did the unexpected one day while out by the lake.

It all started when Harley’s owner, Ralph Dorn, decided to take his dog down to the lake for some playtime. While there, Dorn allowed Harley to play as much as he wanted. That was until Harley suddenly disappeared.

Frantic, Dorn began to search for his lost dog. That was when he spotted him out in the water. Not only that, Harley was accompanied by something else, its small head bobbing just above the waterline. As the pair got closer, Dorn realized that it was a baby deer.

A pleasant surprise

The fawn looked to be only a few days old as Harley escorted the tiny animal safely to shore. As the fawn neared the shore it looked like he was going to have some trouble getting out of the water, the bank was too high for his tiny body. That is when Harley did something sweet.

Harley actually helped the baby deer out of the water by pulling him up the bank. To top it off, as soon as the fawn was safely on shore, Harley began to clean him off. The love he was showing the baby animal was simply amazing, according to Dorn.

“Harley didn’t want to leave the fawn. He just kept interacting with it, licking it, caring for it,” the 62-year-old Dorn told People.

The tale of Harley’s compassion goes viral

Dorn talked about Harley’s kindness in a post on his Facebook page. In the post, he gave more details about the sweet actions of his loving dog. The post was so popular that it has 117,000 likes and over 261,000 shares.

The fawn was reunited with his mother and went about his way. The next day though brought a surprise, the fawn returned.

Now, Harley and the fawn have become best friends. Though his dog’s actions don’t surprise Dorn. Harley has worked as a therapy dog in the past and he has always been loving and kind to the children and animals he meets.

Therapy dogs are picked for their kindness, so Harley was only doing something that came to him naturally. He must truly be a special and caring dog as he decided to help the fawn on his own with no prompting from his owner.
