Good Samaritan finds wallet at Walmart then drives 25 miles to return it

Losing your wallet and coping with it isn’t simple. It’s a very big deal. And believe it or not, losing your wallet can be psychologically disturbing, too.

Debra Crosby was shopping at Walmart when she realized that she lost her wallet.

She was getting her essential items as usual. However, once she got to the cashier, she realized that her wallet was missing.

It’s not the best thing that can happen on a Saturday.

Since it’s the weekend, there were more people than usual at the store. The lines were quite long. Apart from that, the customers were starting to feel annoyed and impatient.

Debra felt a sense of panic.

Without her precious wallet, she wasn’t sure if she had enough money in her purse to pay for everything in her cart. She searched hard and fortunately, she was able to find some petty cash.

That’s not the only thing she was worried about.

Her wallet didn’t just have money. Like most people, she also keeps her driver’s license and military ID there. Replacing them won’t be easy since most offices are closed that day. If she processes them on a weekday, she’d have to take time off work.

Then, something happened on her way home.

Her ring doorbell camera sent a notification. It showed a man standing at her front door.

She found it weird because she wasn’t expecting visitors on that day. Plus, she didn’t know the man.

When the stranger identified himself, Debra felt a sense of relief.

Through the security camera, she heard the man say:

“Hey, how are you doing? I found your wallet at Walmart.”

He went to Debra’s house just to return the wallet.

He continued to say:

“Hey Ms. Crosby, I found your wallet at Walmart in River City. I’m going to put it by the Amazon boxes.”

And that’s exactly what he did. In an interview with First Coast News, Debra shared:

“He brought it personally to my house, concealed it, gave me a message of where he found it, and I thought that was a lot of above and beyond.”

Debra felt touched by the man’s action.

He drove 20 minutes just to return her wallet and that’s not an easy thing to do. He could have just kept the wallet and never contacted her.

The man didn’t leave his name. Considering that, Debra knew that he didn’t do it to be famous or get money. He’s just a kind-hearted guy.

Because of the man’s kindness, Debra felt inspired to teach others about her experience.

As a science teacher at Yulee Middle School, she wants to use her experience as a guide in teaching her students about kindness. She also aspires to teach her kids about it.

In the same interview, Debra shared:

“I have three sons of my own and I would hope that they do the exact same thing.”

Debra had to find the man.

With what he did, she felt the need to thank him personally. After her story went viral, she received a phone call from the man who returned her wallet. And from there, a beautiful friendship between the two began.
