89-year-old woman spends her time sewing hundreds of face masks while listening to Beatles
The world is showing its good side as people come together to help with the coronavirus effort. As time wears on, it is incredible to see the deeds people are volitionally doing. From masks to ventilator parts, almost anyone has the capability to help in some capacity!
This woman decided to take matters in her own hands.
One of the most significant ways that people are helping is by making homemade cloth masks. People with some sewing talents are hitting the threads and crafting their own.
89-year-old Teresa Provo (Grandma Terry) started helping in her own way!
Grandma Terry loves to play computer games and TV in her free time, but she was getting pretty bored! After spending hours of her time sitting around, she thought that she might be able to help more than she was.
Grandma Terry has been sewing for a very long time.
Wanting to help others, she decided that she was going to start sewing make for her family! Getting all the fabric she could find, she began to make some masks for her family.
Sewing is becoming a lost art!
With shirts selling for as little as $3 in some stores, it usually isn’t worth it to repair it. With people lacking a need for clothing repairs, sewing is slowly becoming less popular. Thankfully, Grandma Terry still had the touch!
She started with her family and expanded from there.
After just her family, she expanded the operation to her friends as well! Sewing over fifty masks, Gma Terry was cranking them out!
More than a plain mask, she customized each one!
This truly is going the extra mile for friends and family. If possible, she used their favorite sports team and created the mask out of that kind of cloth. She also had a handwritten note for each mask that she sent off.
After making each mask, she sent them across the country to her friends that needed them.
Sending them in the mail, she had packages go out to places all around the United States! Sending them to places like Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, and Florida, she covered North, South, East, and West!
To top it off, she proved she was the coolest grandma out there.
The entire time that she was making the masks, she was listening to The Beatles. She is a big fan of The Beatles and was around when they were in their heyday! Who knows, she may have even been a fangirl.
A local group found out about her efforts and partnered with her.
The “Red Hat Club” joined Grandma Terry in the mask making for a nursing home! They often partner with people who are doing things in the community.
Altogether, they have made over 600 masks for the people in the nursing home!
A pretty incredible feat if you ask me. They claim to have done it in less than two weeks, too! Imagine what they could do if they had a month of uninterrupted sewing. We may have another H&M competitor show up!
