Grandma and teen become best friends after he drives miles to return her lost wallet

What would you do if you found a wallet that someone had lost in a Walmart parking lot?

Would you keep it and the money inside? Bring it to the store’s lost and found? Bring it to the police?

Well, for one young man, he decided to go the extra mile and return it to it’s owner in person.

Delivontae Johnson was on his was to his way to his local church for Sunday service when he hit a pothole the wrong way and his tire popped.

He had to drive as carefully as possible to the closest Walmart where he was going to purchase a new tire.

When he had parked and got out of his car, Delivontae noticed something on the ground; it was a woman’s wallet.

He picked it up and took a peek inside to see who the owner was and he found out it belonged to 61-year-old Dee Harkrider.

Dee hadn’t even known she had dropped her wallet until the young man contacted her on Facebook and offered to return it to her.

Delivontae, with his brand new tire, drove miles out of his usual way in order to return the woman’s lost property.

Thought Dee lives in Wynne, Arkansas, she was visiting friends a few miles west in the city of Palestine when Delivontae contacted her.

Instead of waiting for her to return, or mailing her the wallet, Delivontae drove the extra 20 miles to meet her in a restaurant parking lot in Palestine.

Dee hugged Delivontae when they finally met and thanked him profusely for his kindness.

She also gave him the $20 that was in her wallet.

Dee wanted to give him more but Delivontae turned it down saying that the $20 was enough and would cover his gas for the trip.

Before the pair parted ways, they ‘friended’ each other on Facebook and Dee asked Delivontae for a photo of the two of them.

“I wanted people to know what this young man had done for me.” Dee said, “I had to share it.”

The photo is now on both of their profile pages and they have been in contact since the incident happened.

Delivontae, who is currently a community college student, was praised by many people for his kind actions.

When asked what his mother had said about the situation, Delivontae said, “She said I did a good job.” and he added about his mother that, “I’m glad she raised me to be the man I am today.”

Dee has also stated that she things the entire incident was a ‘blessing in disguise’ and that, “God brought this angel into my life. God sends people for a reason into each others lives.”

The story of Delivontae’s kindness quickly went around the area and a local news station picked it up and did a feature on it.
