The tables are hilariously turned when funny grandma calls nurse to ask about a patient
Healthcare systems, as great as they are, can be irritating at times.
With all the sophisticated technology and all the healthcare improvement, it seems things are still lacking.
It appears that people are just running around and failing to care for patients on a more personal level. It’s no surprise that worried family members grow agitated when they seek information about a loved one.
That is not to say that one should take issues into their own hands. But, in the instance of this kind old lady, it seems that she had enough.
She is smart, witty, and razor-sharp!
A sweet old lady telephoned St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She timidly asked,
“Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?”
The operator said,
“I can, what’s the name and room number?”
The old lady in her weak voice said,
“Norma Findlay, Room 302.”
The operator replied,
“Let me place you on hold while I check with her nurse.”
After a few minutes the operator returned to the phone and said,
“Oh, I have good news, her nurse just told me that Norma is doing very well.
Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back as normal and her physician,
Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged on Tuesday.”
The old lady said, “Thank you. That’s wonderful! I was so worried! God bless you!”
The operator replied, “You’re more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?”
The grandmother said, “No, I’m Norma Findlay in 302. No one tells me sh*t.”
And the award for best actress in a drama scene goes to…
We’ve all had the experience of having to wait and talk and wait and chat to physicians and nurses for updates.
And, while we understand that it is their job, it is still inconvenient to have to wait and inquire all the time.
According to Dani Bell, specialist advisor for treatment and recovery at Macmillan Cancer Support:
“Waiting for test results can be a worrying time. Sometimes people will have a test and get results on the same day; for other tests, they may have to wait to get results from their doctor. Either way, the not knowing, or thinking the worst, can understandably cause increased levels of anxiety.”
Perhaps the operator genuinely cared about Norma.
Still, it’s fantastic news that beautiful old Norma is in good health and will be released shortly.
Nobody wants to hear terrible news in the hospital.
Norma decided to take matters into her own hands. She cracked the code that so many others across the world are attempting to crack.
Of course, be grateful if your nurse takes the time to update you.
They are extremely busy, so going out of their way to check and update you may mean less time for others.
Norma didn’t care a sh*t because no one told her sh*t.
So why wasn’t Dr. Cohen speaking to her? He must be a very busy man if he does not personally update his elderly patient. But he met his match in the form of little old Norma Findlay!
You can bet she’s in good health. Norma isn’t afraid to fight!
