Grandma puts up extraordinary 80,000 Christmas light display that gains national attention
People all over the world need to see Evelyn Quintero’s Christmas decorations. She’s such an expert that her creative skills earned the grand prize on ABC’s “Great Christmas Light Fight.”
Quintero’s “Peaceful Meadow” is so stunning that her house in Atwater, California, has to be the most festive this season.
There are visitors from all over the place coming over to see her work and it’s totally understandable why. Quintero’s very bright, and super merry garden is enough to light up the entire neighborhood.
“I think it will put Atwater on the map,” said neighbor Maria Vega.
Quintero used 80,000 lights for her project, covering almost every inch of space that she could. There are other elements included in the display such as deer, mountains, and a waterfall.
A neighbor went so far as to call it “a work of art”.
As incredible as it is to look at, Quintero didn’t even expect to make the show. Then she won the top prize.
“I was in total shock. I just couldn’t believe that they chose me. I’m just a little old great-grandma on a corner here,” she said.
It’s not her first time. Quintero and her husband were well known in Vacaville, California for their amazing Christmas displays. She moved to Atwater to be with her family four years ago, and there continued to show everyone her decorating skills.
They purchased the lot right beside the home just so she could put up her display. It just shows her dedication to the project she’s been so good at. And the neighborhood loves it!
“I feel like I’m in a meadow and I feel like I’m out of this world. Like, amazed by these lights,” said a young girl named Kiley Stahlhut.
90% of the holiday display is handmade. With a 3D pen, Quintero makes ducks, ladybugs, and birds to decorate all over the space.
All of the 8,000 flowers made of icicle lights found in the meadow were hand-painted. It took her years to find and collect the beautiful sea of pink, which she intentionally did as a tribute to her late daughter.
All that pink is for Andrea.
“We had a daughter who passed away several years ago and her favorite color was pink so yes, I do have more pink flowers in memory of her,” Quintero said.
Quintero loves all the reactions she sees. Kids and adults alike find their way over to her meadow loving every aspect of her work. Her bright lights made news across the country too!
Two women brought their friend to see her work, and she came all the way from Texas.
“I’m amazed at her skills and her imagination and that she even came up with the concept,” she said.
Quintero’s aim was to share her talent and spread joy around. She wasn’t in it for the fame or the recognition.
“It was like showing your artwork at a New York gallery. That’s what I was thinking,” she said.
