Shopper bursts out laughing when man explains how he handles spoiled grandson in the store

The world is already dark and grim enough sometimes, and we could all use a good joke once in a while. After all, a day without laughter is a day wasted, right? Someone posted a lengthy joke on the r/Jokes page of Reddit, and if you’ve ever gone shopping with a little one at the grocery store, you’ll immediately be able to relate and sympathize.

The story is about a grandfather who is taking his grandson out for a shopping session at the grocery store, and the little boy was definitely throwing quite a tantrum.

Sometimes, shopping with kids just plain isn’t fun. If kids are in a cranky mood, they’ll want to throw dozens of items in the car and bring them home – even if the parents or in this case, the grandparents, refuse to buy it. When that happens, be prepared for a whole lot of temper tantrums! It seemingly takes a while before young little ones realize that they simply can’t get everything in the whole store.

In the following joke, we follow the perspective of a fellow shopper who witnessed an elderly man shopping with his grandson. The little boy is in a very cranky mood!

The woman who spotted both of them, however, can’t praise the grandfather enough. It seems like he has just a limitless amount of patience and compassion, almost as if he was a saint. How could this man possibly deal with the little spoiled brat in such a calm manner? Turns out that not everything is what it seems, and the response by the grandfather when she approached him made her laugh out loud.

Well, it’s a joke for a reason, so definitely read until the end of the joke to see why!

“A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly-behaved 3-year-old grandson,” the joke starts.

“It’s obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child screaming for sweets in the sweet aisle, biscuits in the biscuit aisle, and for fruit, cereal and pop in the other aisles.”

The behavior of the little one is clearly unacceptable, but this man seemed to be completely stoic about it.

“Meanwhile, granddad is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice,”Easy, William, we won’t be long. Easy, boy.” Another outburst and she hears the grandfather calmly say, “It’s okay William, just a couple more minutes and we’ll be out of here. Hang in there, boy.” At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart and granddad says again in a very controlled voice, “William, William, relax buddy, don’t get upset. We’ll be home in five short minutes; stay cool, William.””

At this point, the woman is clearly impressed by the man’s demeanor. She would’ve lost her patience ages ago!

“Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car. She said to the elderly gentleman, ‘It’s none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don’t know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa.'”

The response by the man definitely wasn’t what she expected, but it had her laughing out loud!

“Thanks,” said the grandfather, “but I’m William. The little brat’s name is Kevin.”

Raising kids may be rewarding, but everyone knows it can be very difficult sometimes too! No child behaves perfectly all the time, and if there’s one message that this funny joke spreads, it’s that staying calm can go a long way!
