Kind grandson puts everything aside to take care of his grandma full time

One of the purest things in the world is the love between grandparents and their grandchildren.

While doting grandparents play a vital role in a child’s upbringing, the full responsibility of training them to become kind and compassionate humans isn’t theirs to take on.

Grandparents share a fun and loving relationship with their grandkids.

Ever wonder why kids run to their grandmas and grandpas when mom and dad say ‘no’?

That’s how much confidence they have in the fact that their grandparents will always have their back.

This isn’t to say that grandparents intentionally contradict the lessons parents are instilling in their kids – they just have so much love to give that it fills their grandkids’ cups to the brim.

No wonder grandkids would go to the ends of the earth for their grandparents.

No one forgets how funny, supportive, and sweet grandma and grandpa were growing up.

No one forgets the delicious meals, the warm hugs, the comforting words, and the gentle talking-to that comes now and then.

Content creator Chris Punsalan didn’t think twice about sacrificing for his grandmother.

Chris and his family live in Nevada, and his grandmother is in the Philippines.

It’s difficult to fly back and forth to check on her, and the older generation isn’t always keen to master how technology works.

The family considered sending her to a care home, but Chris couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her in the care of strangers, albeit kind ones.

It’s not usual for Filipino families to entrust their elders to caregivers in care homes.

There’s nothing wrong with it; Filipinos just aren’t as comfortable with the setup because part of Filipino culture includes having close family ties, which also means it’s in their nature to insist on giving back by extending care and support to the elders in their family.

That’s why Chris came up with another option.

He decided he’d instead move back to the Philippines and be his grandmother’s full-time caregiver.

Chris told ABS-CBN News:

“She took care of me and I would hate to see her go to homecare, which is where I feel most grandparents go in America. They go to home care because nobody is able to take care of them.”

He wasn’t expecting the content he shared to resonate with so many others.

His already large following grew more because of the story he shared.

With it, he included footage of what a typical day with his grandmother is like, including the chores he did daily and the conversations they shared.

But there were also difficult moments.

It wasn’t the physical aspect of the daily routine.

“To see her forget who I am sometimes and for me to have to remind her, that’s probably one of the more difficult things because it’s a constant reminder that life is very fragile, and it’s very short.”

Chris considers himself lucky to be by his grandmother’s side.

Life is short, and he didn’t want to spend his days away from someone he loved deeply.

The only thing that mattered to Chris was showing his grandmother that he’d always be by her side for as long as time would allow.
