Arrange meatballs with sliced potatoes in dish then top with cheese and bake for delicious French classic

Many of us have grown up with the idea that most French cooking is for “fancy” restaurants and that it has no place in the kitchen for regular people. Thankfully, that stereotype is starting to be broken as people are creating incredible French-style meals from the comfort of their own home.

This recipe shows that you can have classy and easy food all at home.

The meal we will be making today is known as Gratin Parmentier and is super popular right now. It originally went viral online due to how good it tastes and the ease of which you can make it for dinner!

Meals that look good but can’t be made at home aren’t good for much.

The best meals are the ones you can make yourself. It is always great when you find a recipe that is super delicious and homemade. Leave all the fancy TV cooking where it belongs, on TV and in expensive restaurants!

Ingredients:

  • 3 peeled and boiled potatoes
  • 1 white onion
  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped parsley
  • 1 pinch of paprika
  • 1 large bag of shredded mozzarella
  • bechamel sauce (look below)
  • salt
  • pepper

Bechamel sauce:

  • 5 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 tablespoons of AP flour
  • 4 cups of milk
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg

Bechamel

  1. We need to make the bechamel sauce. Bechamel is a standard white sauce that is made from butter flour and milk. It is a kitchen staple and is used in many recipes.
  2. Get a medium saucepan and melt the butter over medium heat. Add your flour and stir until incorporated and the flour smell is gone, and the mixture is lightly golden.
  3. Heat your milk in a separate pot and bring it to a simmer. Once simmering, add your milk to your butter, one cup at a time while whisking. Once everything is incorporated, bring the entire thing to a boil while stirring. Add a pinch of salt and nutmeg.

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a bowl, combine your meat, parsley, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is incorporated.
  2. Peel your potatoes and boil them until semi-soft. Take them out and cut into slices. Arrange them around the bottom of a flash baking dish, bottom and sides.
  3. Form your meat mixture into large meatballs and place them into the baking dish. There should be about 12 meatballs in total.
  4. Use the rest of the potato slices and make little “rooms” for the meatballs. After making these compartments, pour your sauce into each of the rooms until full and cover the entire thing in mozzarella.
  5. Place into the oven for 15 minutes and enjoy!
