Contrary to what most people think, break-ins don’t always happen at night. They are actually more likely to happen in broad daylight. Experts reveal that burglars and thieves are more inclined to break into homes between 10 am and 11 am or in the afternoon between 1 pm to 3 pm.

One Oklahoma woman can attest to that, thanks to her Great Dane.

One sunny afternoon, Tracy McCoy was spending time at home with her two dogs and her son. Since it was in the middle of the day, she didn’t bother locking the door. Why would you, with a Great Dane at your side?

Then, she heard a noise from the doorway.

Hearing the door open and shut didn’t alarm her or make her feel suspicious. She thought it was just her older son. After all, who would try to rob their house in the middle of the day?

It was an unexpected visitor.

The security footage didn’t show Tracy’s son coming through the door. Instead, it revealed a strange man opening the door and letting himself in.

Dubai, Tracy’s 122-pound Great Dane, greeted the man.

Surprisingly, the man didn’t look scared of Dubai and his massive size. He even stopped to pet the dog before proceeding to the hallway.

Even with that gesture, Dubai didn’t get suspicious.

Great Danes are considered as gentle giants. Despite their size, they are actually friendly creatures. They are affectionate and moderately playful.

Tracy was shocked to see the man.

The woman felt frightened to see a stranger walking inside her home. The minute she laid eyes on him, she immediately screamed.

At that point, Dubai knew that something was wrong.

Seeing his human’s reaction, the Great Dane realized that the man who greeted him earlier wasn’t a friend.

He quickly lunged at the man and bit him in the backside.

“He immediately did an about-face and started after the gentleman. He escorted him out by the rear end with his teeth,” – Tracy shared.

At the time, all Tracy was able to do was scream.

This alerted her younger son who happened to be blind. He didn’t know something bad was going on until he heard his mom screaming. Of course, it left the boy feeling scared.

Once outside, the man hurriedly tried to escape.

It was a good thing that the policemen were able to catch up to the intruder. Within a few minutes, they were able to bring the man back to Tracy’s house so she could identify him.

This story just proves that you should take home security seriously at all times.

Having someone break into your property can be a nightmare. You can lose your valuables, your home, and even the lives of those dear to you. To keep yourself safe, remember to lock your doors at all times. Consider installing a home security system, and make sure that it includes sensors and cameras. They should cover every entry point you have at home.

If you are planning on getting a dog for security reasons, think twice.

Although dogs are loyal and protective, they shouldn’t be used as a part of your home security system. You shouldn’t use them as a defense against strangers. Dogs, like you, can get hurt. They are vulnerable to attacks and they can’t defend themselves as effectively as humans can.
