Dying mom weeps as she listens to daughter sing emotional song dedicated to her

Most “uplifting articles” don’t address the topic of death. It can be looming and terrifying to address in our own lives. There can sometimes be value, however, in addressing our mortality. Often the purest and most beautiful forms of art come from our expression of that reality in our lives.

Kayla George expressed her grief in a song she sang for her terminally ill mother.

This twelve-year-old melted the hearts of millions when she was recorded singing the song “A Thousand Years” to her mother as she lay on the hospital bed. You can hear the empathy and obvious pain that the girl sings with. It is never easy to confront the idea of someone close to us not being there anymore.

Anne George was in the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.

Whether it’s hospital rooms or hospice, there is nothing particularly comfortable about medical facilities. Most everything is stark white and lit with white fluorescent bulbs giving off their eery blue-white light. Most people try to make the rooms they are staying in feel a bit more comfortable and homey.

Kayla and her singing was just the touch a cold hospital room needed.

Emotion and passion can warm a room up wonderfully. Even if the room is the same “temperature” as before, there are the remains of hope and beauty that can linger from someone’s emotional and artful expression. What Kayla did was quite beautiful and heartfelt. I am confident that everyone in the room was very thankful for her.

Her mom was quite emotional through the song.

It was hard not to cry watching this video, let alone being in the room, and having an emotional connection to the people themselves. As Kayla sang, her mom teared up and watched the entire performance through a watery blur.

Her godmother was the one recording and thought that what Kayla did was incredibly brave.

It can be hard to sing in front of people, let alone your terminally ill mother and family. Kayla’s godmother, Rosalind said in the video description:

“MY goddaughter Kayla George aged 12 sings to her mum Anne George “A Thousand Years” in the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow . She suddenly just burst into song . One very brave , loving and strong girl”

The story ends with a loving family, millions of sympathetic viewers, and a wonderful memory.

The video is more than just an opportunity to get views on a media platform. I am sure that this video is a great memory that was captured as the family grieved together at the prognosis. I know that many prayers were said by people who watched the video, and there was a “global family” of people who supported Kayla and her mom through the process. The internet can be a wonderful thing.

A final update:

Rosalind took to the comments to pin a final note sometime after the recording of this video. In the comment, she said:

“Hi everyone this is just an update to let everyone know that unfortunately Anne passed away. She had a hard, long battle with cancer but never gave up fighting. Kayla continues to sing and no doubt has made her mum so proud. Thank you so much for your messages it really means the world X”
