Grieving families devastated by Texas Elementary School tragedy comforted by therapy dogs

The state’s deadliest school shooting is currently thought to have taken place on May 24, 2022, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

It was the time that Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old suspect, relentlessly shot and killed 19 pupils and 2 instructors.

The tragedy terrified the nation.

We stand in solidarity with the bereaved community, especially the relatives of the victims, as the entire world was in complete shock.

Dogs are helping to lessen the excruciating agony caused by the catastrophe in addition to the never-ending prayers. A group of therapy dogs has gathered to aid in the healing process.

Therapy dogs are being deployed.

These dogs visit hospitals, schools, churches, and other locations where their assistance is sorely needed.

Therapy dogs unconditionally support individuals going through difficult times, unlike humans. They do not pass any judgment.

They are simply there to listen.

What is their method? Of course, by doing what dogs do best—which is to make people smile, wag their tails, and give them endless hugs.

Although these gestures are simple, do not underestimate the happy hormones these things can trigger.

Dogs help release happy hormones.

Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) was called by a neighborhood church and the city administration to request aid. On the day of the shooting event, they took prompt action by dispatching eight of their K-nine Comfort Dogs.

Eight golden retrievers—Elijah, Miriam, Abner, Triton, Gabriel, Joy, Cubby, and Devorah—responded to the emergency call.

The dogs were ready to help.

These dogs were only the initial group of therapy dogs to show up. Five other K-9 Comfort Dogs joined the team shortly after that.

“Eight LCC K-9 Comfort Dog teams stayed in the square to offer comfort to the community as they searched for the names of their loved ones. We listened to stories, prayed and cried together,” the Facebook post captioned. “Please continue to keep Uvalde, TX and our ministry in your prayers as we continue to be present for those who are suffering and in need here.”

More doggos came in to help.

On the other side, the Crisis Response Canines dispatched six teams of handlers and their therapy dogs, Tarik, Exon, Axel, Zodiac, Murphy, and Macy.

A team of therapy dogs was also introduced by a nearby charity organization called Therapy Animals of San Antonio to aid in the healing process.

And it didn’t stop there!

Canines 4 Christ, an animal-assisted therapy ministry, participated as well by sending six teams.

Some groups have gone above and beyond by providing plush animals to the kids so they have something to occupy their time at home.

The people of Uvalde are incredibly appreciative of all the handlers and comfort dogs that provided their assistance without hesitation.

It is true that getting over that awful day is difficult, and nobody’s tomorrow who is currently suffering will be the same again. The scars in the hearts of the mourning families will hopefully also be healed by time, as we continue to believe that time heals all wounds.

All of us pray for lawless institutions, universities, and schools. We can all only hope that the promise of a “safer” education will be extended to all of us, particularly to those living in the Uvalde neighborhood.
