This adorable cat went viral for his distinctive mustache – now he’s an Internet superstar
We can’t get enough of unique and adorable cats. And there’s nothing wrong with that – they are there to be worshipped (as far as they’re concerned).
For those who like cats with a unique feature, we give you Gringo – the cat with a mustache.
The British Shorthair – who has over 72.5K Instagram followers and counting – is just a bit over a year old. Gringo even has an agent!
But this mustachioed little man isn’t the only fancy feline in the house. His French abode includes his brother Milko, who is around 7 years old.
Sadly, Milko has under 10k Instagram followers despite being quite the stunner. We can only hope he doesn’t get teased about it. You know how cats can be about their Instagram follower numbers.
Unfortunately, Gringo’s original Instagram account was hacked early in 2019, so his owner had to start all over again and try to rebuild the cat’s 60k follower fanbase. But they’ve achieved that and then some!
Probably because Gringo is just so unimaginably cute and…let’s face it, silly-looking (but in a good way!).
While the British Shorthair breed is very common, it’s those facial markings that make him so photogenic.
Sabrine and Romain are the owners of Gringo and Milko and they do a great job of chronicling the cats’ days.
In fact, Gringo even has an adorable habit.
“He likes to stand on his back paw, just like a meerkat,” said Sabrine. “He can stay a couple of minutes in that position, and it’s hilarious.”
We can’t get enough of his “meercat mode” with a side of mustache.
Fortunately, fame has not yet gone to Gringo’s head – and while he seems to delight in having his photo taken, he knows nothing of his popularity. He and his brother are happy, hyper kitties.
“Gringo is a happy kitty, full of life and with a really nice personality. He loves to play all day and all night, get up to mischief like climbing on curtains, scratching the couch, and jumping in the plants,” Sabrine told Just Something.
Gringo can be a bit of a stinker as well.
“Gringo always sniffs our plates to see if there’s something good for him to eat, and he likes to steal our sponge from the kitchen just to chew it, so we have to hide it every time.”
We’re pretty sure we could forgive this face though:
Sabrine and Romain found Gringo at a French rescue association called Les pattounes du coeur. And while they did have some concerns about inviting another cat into their home and worried how Milko would react, they couldn’t pass up that furry mustache.
Gringo was just three months old when they brought him home.
Much to the family’s delight, Milko welcomed him into the family and the two are now inseparable.
Now that the cats and their parents are under quarantine with much of the rest of the world, and they’re all working hard from home.
If you’d like to follow the adventures of Gringo, check out his Instagram page here for updates on the furry French mustachioed gentleman.
He also has a Facebook page and a website you can visit. The latter is written from Gringo’s perspective where he describes his days and hobbies, such as waking up his “pawrents at 5 AM to play or eat.”
And like all celebrity cats, Gringo has his own swag, which can be purchased on his Etsy store.
