Derick Smith had a wish that would never come true on his wedding day. He wanted his deceased brother, Jake, to be his best man. Amazingly, Derick’s bride arranged for someone who owes their life to Jake to attend.

Some people are lucky enough to have siblings that are also their best friends. Derick Smith was one of those people.

Growing up, he and his little brother, Jake, were practically inseparable. They would do everything together! Like all brothers, they would sometimes fight, but those would only be small disagreements.

But then one day, tragedy struck. When Jake was 12 years old, he got hit by a car. He lost his life.

The entire family was devastated. They carried on with their lives. But there would always be a massive hole due to Jake’s absence.

A decade later, Derick met a woman whom he soon fell completely in love with, Katy. So after a few years of dating, the couple decided to tie the knot.

But for Derick, the wedding would be a bittersweet occasion. He had to pick a best man, but the only person who could fill those shoes was long gone. That’s when Katy decided to find a very special wedding guest.

When Jake died, his family allowed his organs to be donated. Someone took Jake’s heart right away. But the family never found out who had been given the child’s heart.

So Katy started looking for the person who had been given Jake’s heart. After a year of searching, the fiancee learned the identity of the person who was alive thanks to Jake. The recipient of Jake’s heart was a woman named Gracie Wilkinson. She had been given Jake’s heart when she was just six years old.

Katy got into contact with her. The fiancee explained who her husband-to-be was and that it would be an honor if Gracie could attend the wedding. Gracie said that she would love to meet the family of the person whose heart she had been given.

So on the wedding day, Katy met Derick before the wedding. This was breaking tradition. But there was a very important reason for this. The bride revealed just who would be attending the wedding: the recipient of Jake’s heart.

And Derick broke down into tears right away.

Then he saw Gracie and Gracie’s mom walking up to him, and the tears kept on flooding.

So Derick and Gracie embraced. The groom couldn’t believe that he was finally meeting the person whom Jake had saved all those years ago.

Derick told Gracie that he was glad that she came. He also said how glad he was that his brother was able to help her. Then Gracie allowed Derick to listen to her heartbeat.

The bride and groom proceeded to have a beautiful wedding ceremony. At the reception, Gracie introduced herself to everyone in Derick’s family. All of them were humbled to have met her.

Gracie lives close to Derick’s family. She is sure to remain in contact with them. Everyone in Derick’s family now knows that Derick married the right woman. Who else would go to such lengths to bring their spouse and their family closure after so long?
