Compassionate groomer opens salon to give stray dog an emergency makeover at midnight
Coming upon a stray dog or cat is anything but uncommon. But coming across one that has survived on the streets all while being blind and deaf, is pretty rare.
A stray dog was found on the streets of Orlando on a late October night. A woman posted the severely matted dog across various social media pages in hopes of finding a possible owner or at the least, someone to help him.
In her post, she said that the dog was almost hit by a car.
As fate would have it, one woman, Kari Falla, saw the posting on one of the many animal rescue social media accounts she followed.
Falla owns a family-run pet-grooming business called, BGE Grooming. She knew immediately what she would do.
Falla grooms rescue animals free of charge and though it was around midnight at the time she stumbled upon the posting, she reached out to the woman and asked if she could see the poor dog.
“We always groom rescue dogs and shelter does for free, so as soon as I found out, it was a no-brainer.”
She continued, “We believe in paying it forward. Sharing a little bit of kindness goes a long way. And in this case, it saved a life.”
The man who found the dog brought him in per Falla’s request. She recalled how severely mattered the dog was when he was brought in.
“They were soaking wet, infested with fleas, full of yeast infection and attached like a mummified cast.”
She also shared that he gave off a “horrendous” smell.
But Falla was willing to work with it all. She knew that nothing good would come to him if the shelter got a hold of him.
“The pictures … they would’ve euthanized him,” she revealed.
Falla spent three hours on the dog. She estimated that he had approximately 20-25 pounds of fur on him.
But after she was done, the dog looked unrecognizable.
When she finished, the man then took him to the vet. He was told that the pup was both blind and deaf.
“They had to do surgery on his eyelids because the matting was so bad that they pushed his eyelids into his eyes, causing him to go blind.”
Clearly, the dog had a pretty rough life. But he had people in his corner.
The man named him Lucky because he was nothing short of a miracle.
After their story aired by their local news, everybody wanted to help both Lucky and Falla. People were willing to adopt Lucky and wanted to thank Falla by giving her financial gifts.
But the only true lucky thing was that the man who brought him in was able to leave with him. Lucky was finally adopted.
Falla was also grateful that she was able to help to get Lucky back onto his feet.
Falla vowed that Lucky would receive free groomings by her company for the rest of his life. She also used the money that was sent to her to pay for all of Lucky’s veterinary care.
Now, Lucky lives at his new home with the man who saved his life and his two other pets!
Clearly, not all heroes wear capes!
