Mom records GSD hilariously launching full-blown attack on his mortal enemy — the hairdryer
Dogs can be playful, especially puppies. They tend to go after the silliest things, often putting up a fight that is both silly and adorable. Coupled with their need to protect their home and family, and any strange and unknown object becomes a potential opponent to be driven from the home.
So, when Saint, the German Shepherd dog, was faced with a hairdryer, he couldn’t help but try and vanquish his enemy.
Saint fights a hairdryer in a video
In a video shared on Instagram, Saint is seen going after a hairdryer his owner is holding. As the air blows from the device, he snaps and fights it to try and drive the scary machine away.
And while his efforts don’t seem to work, he seems determined to give it his all to drive it away.
The video is popular on Instagram
Since being posted on the social media site, the video has gotten over 40,000 views. Several of the commenters talked about how Saint was such a good boy to protect his home so bravely. Many of the responses were supportive of Saint’s ultimately wasted efforts to fight the hairdryer.
“I just wanna hug him so tight,” said one Instagram user. “The best GS pup I have seen till now,” another said. “Awww… You are so cute!” exclaimed a third.
The hairdryer is not the only battle Saint has fought
In addition to fighting the hairdryer, Saint has been known to fight other fruitless fights, including one with the water hose, or at least the water coming out of it. And while it was a toss-up as to who won the battle, Saint seems to think that he won the day.
Why do dogs feel a need to protect the home?
Normally, in the wild, a dog would try to protect where they live, as well as their pack mates. Domesticated animals still retain this instinct and consider their owners as a part of their pack. In some breeds, such as with German shepherds, this instinct is even more prominent.
Keeping your dog from becoming too aggressive
This is the reason that German shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, and other guard dog breeds are so highly prized by homeowners looking for a dog to guard their home. Many dogs see an intrusion into the home by something unknown as a danger to their home and owners. This can include strangers, other animals, or, as in Saint’s case, the offending hairdryer.
As long as their need to protect is not allowed to evolve into much more aggressive behavior, then everything should be fine. Fortunately, you can use training and commands to remove some of this aggression. You can also work to remove some of the items that might trigger it.
Chances are that Saint probably thinks he got rid of the danger when his owner had to eventually turn the device off. You can watch the video of Saint’s losing battle with the hairdryer below.
