German shepherd puppy and marine vet stop motorcycle thief in his tracks
You never know when you will be called upon to act. Those life-altering moments involve adrenaline, excitement, and even a bit of fear. For one dynamic duo in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, that moment happened in his neighbor’s bushes.
Edward Swingle is a Marine veteran who was minding his own business in his garage one day when something absurd happened.
Edward Swingle saw action overseas and is a combat veteran with a purple heart – in other words; you don’t want to mess with him. Swingle enjoys spending time with his dog, Keeper, who is a German Shepherd. When the two are together, they make for quite an imposing duo!
Keeper is a German Shepherd, but he was still a puppy.
We use the term “puppy” loosely here, but Keeper was around four months old at the time of the incident. A four-month-old German Shepherd weighs around 35 pounds, plenty bigger than most other dogs!
Across the city, something else was happening.
Corey Pandullo broke into a garage in Scottdale and had the cops called on him. When the officer arrived, Pandullo fought with the man and then stole an SUV from the garage. Backing it over a wall, there was a chase afoot.
After Pandullo backed the SUV out of the wall, he ran into Swingle’s neighbor.
“My neighbor started yelling ‘there’s a guy in my bushes,’” said Swingle.
The SUV was probably too damaged to drive, and Pandullo was looking for an escape vehicle. As chance would have it, Swingle’s neighbor had his motorcycle on the back porch – a target for the fleeing criminal.
Swingle and his dog ran out to help when they heard his neighbor calling.
Going to the front of the home, they ran full force into Pandullo as he attempted to break into the door.
“I get right here and I see a guy running into my door full force. So I yell for my dog, I said ‘keeper go get him’ and he went through there those bushes messed up the flowers and grabbed him by his pant legs and drug him off the porch.”
Keeper grabbed onto Pandullo’s pant leg and held on tight!
Like a trained police dog, Keeper yanked the criminal off the porch and pulled him away from the home. Swingle then took matters into his own hands and pulled Pandullo up and asked him what was going on with all this.
Tearing away from Swingle, Pandullo took off running.
You might be able to outrun Swingle, but you aren’t outrunning Keeper!
“so I let my dog have him again and then they both went over across the street he took off running across and my dog was on his legs the whole way and they went back between the houses there.”
With a dog on his leg, Pandullo didn’t make it far.
Finally, Swingle arrived and held the man at gunpoint until police arrived. The team effort was quite an exciting event, but Swingle insisted he knew who the real hero was.
“the dog, the dog is absolutely.”
