Guy constructs beautiful 4,000 sq ft house by hand so he’s debt free

Buying a house is a big deal.

Considering the state of the economy and the other financial obligations that come with purchasing property, it’s understandable that some people would have mixed reactions to news of the investment.

It’s not always simply refusing to be happy for others – it could very well come from a place of concern, awe, or both.

Rob Brian of Oklahoma received his fair share of mixed reactions.

When he began working on his home, not everyone was in full support of the idea.

But first, a little back story. After working hard for a solid 25 years, Ron decided it was time to retire.

His career in the oil industry in Alaska was great; he was well-compensated.

However, after decades passed, he realized it was time for the next journey.

The money he saved from all those years of working equipped him with enough to get started on his dream.

Apart from owning a farm and having financial stability, he also had the skills to build his own house.

Why should a man who can very well purchase a furnished home opt for the more complex option, you ask?

This is where it gets fascinating.

For starters, he already had land. 330 acres of it, to be exact.

First, he purchased two old horse barns, one measuring 50 feet, and the other 30 feet.

Why the horse barns? So he could connect them and bring his vision to life.

Rob used natural materials, including cedar wood from his farm, to construct the house.

Most importantly, he made sure the solar-powered house would be able to withstand Oklahoma weather.

By using sturdy wood, straw bales, and stucco, his dwelling was made resistant to heat, rain, and tornadoes.

It was perfectly engineered and well-decorated.

Inside the house are charming, decorative accents and designs that show his personality and taste: baseboards with unique carvings, wine bottles functioning as glass windows, name it, Rob made sure it all stood out while tying it together perfectly.

And outside? A swimming pool, of course! Now that’s idyllic retirement!

Rob recalled the mixed reactions he got from people.

He told KFOR:

“They just thought I was nuts, thought I was crazy. It wasn’t until the very last year when everything came together, had windows in, had doors in that they go, ‘Oh wow, that’s pretty cool.'”

Despite the doubts expressed by those around him, Rob continued working on his home until he was finally able to declare it finished.

He also has good advice for the younger generation.

Rob shares that if anyone wanted to be debt-free, they should start by picking up a hammer.

From the little things, he said, they would eventually learn their way.

Saving up to buy land, materials, and tools, coupled with learning essential skills, would take one far.

One would do well to heed his advice! Just look at what Rob has accomplished.
