Guy purchases rundown cinderblock home for $12K and completely renovates it in 2 years

Some people’s trash is another man’s treasure – and you can say this about houses, too.

We find properties everywhere that have been abandoned by either the previous renter or the owners.

These homes are mostly in such a sorry state that one would wonder if repairing them would still be worth it.

With the cost of living too high (including food, water, gas, and electricity), who would bother to shell out for a home repair?

But if buying an old house and repairing it would mean it’s yours, then it might be worth it.

Most of these hobbyist builders would buy cheap homes – usually those old, neglected ones, and flip them themselves.

They either live in it or sell it out for a better price. The goal is to bring back the life of an old house into something worth every penny, blood, and sweat.

This guy who called himself The Homestead Craftsman has been doing that for many years.

One of his most popular builds was the home he bought for $12,000, which he renovated himself, and two or three other people helped him along the way.

He wanted to keep the house simple yet usable. Its old cinder block walls outside made it look vintage but cozy – like a simple vacation house in the hills or mountains.

He started by demolishing most of the walls and floors.

The walls looked fragile, and he wanted to refurbish its insulation and paint it a new color.

The floors also look like it’s been neglected for a long time, so he did the same thing on the floor as he did with the wall.

He used the framing technique to make insulation, wiring, and plumbing easier to set up. Then, he closed off the frame with drywall and base flooring.

Then, he shifted his attention to putting in new windows and roofing.

He didn’t want to change the shape of the window holes, so he just purchased new ones that could fit perfectly.

He removed the old shingles and replaced them with a new set. He also added a roof overhang and new gutters.

One thing he did that changed the house’s look was the porch.

He repaired the one in front while adding another at the back. It was nothing fancy, but it looked much better with brighter wood color and a fresher look.

Another highlight of this build was redoing the kitchen.

The kitchen is one of the biggest selling points in every house for sale, so he made sure that the kitchen looked perfect for this one.

He replaced the cabinetry and countertop to give it a cleaner look and added a full-sized refrigerator and a gas range.

After all his hard work, the house looked new once again.

The floor and wall work perfectly gave the house a simple yet cozy look.

The rooms were divided into perfect sizes with spacious closets.

The bathroom was also a significant transformation from what it was before he renovated it.
