Gymnast channels her inner “Barbie” for hilarious performance no one saw coming

Barbie is one of the most iconic figures, especially for young girls. So, how about turning this widely recognized doll into reality?

Rebekah Ripley brought Barbie to life.

It was the first competition she joined after recovering from two ACL injuries and a knee injury.

Rebekah underwent surgery, which resulted in her taking a break from joining competitions.

Even still, she wasn’t going to let any setback keep her from achieving her goals.

She made ‘doll-like’ moves.

With her blond hair and petite body, Rebekah easily pulled off the character on stage. At the start of her performance, she moved and walked like a doll.

Her moves were paired with plastic sound effects.

This made them look almost real. She also perfected her smile, which completed the overall doll-like stunt.

Her choice of music? Of course, it will be “Barbie Girl” by Aqua.

Rebekah started flying through the air as the song came into the background. She did some cartwheels and managed to land gracefully on the mat.

After each stunt, Rebekah did not fail to showcase her smile, which made the crowd even more hooked on her performance.

Aside from that, she also used an upbeat version of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” and “Get Ready” by Temptations to pair her gymnastic moves.

It was wildly fun and entertaining.

The cheeky and bubbly song, paired with her rigidification movement of arms and legs, has made everything look like you are watching a life-sized Barbie perform some gymnastic number.

She got everyone hooked on her moves that they even forgot about the brace on her legs.

Ripley is an inspiration.

Her flips, handstands, and back handspring were almost too perfect that you’d never think that she had just recently recovered from an injury.

The performance that Rebekah did showed that having an injury should not discourage you from keeping on pursuing your dream.

Her passion and love for her chosen sport radiated throughout the performance.

Her performance broke the internet.

She did not expect that her routine would go viral.

“My coaches and teammates joked that this routine will go viral, but I didn’t necessarily think that would happen after the very first meet,” said Ripley during her interview with KSL.com.

Who would not get hooked on that charming and delightful performance?

Luck or pure talent?

Returning to the mat after years of not being able to perform, Rebekah practiced a lot before the gymnastics meet in Las Vegas.

“That first competition, I was nervous; I hadn’t competed on floor since 2019 – it’s been years. Luckily, I was on my feet, but my tumbling passes weren’t as good as they were in practice, and everything was just a little bit off. But I was pleasantly surprised that so many people liked it.” she told KSL.com.

Rebekah has plenty in store for her fans.

The Barbie performance was more fun rather than aiming for perfection.

However, she is looking forward to being able to perform in front of the BYU fans, which will only be possible during home-court competitions.
